30-40 craig
« on: March 22, 2010, 07:21:01 AM »
since the questions have come up about converting 336's
it hit me this weekend that a 336 in 30-40 would be nice, if is
possible. Anyone ever tried this or checked into it?

The 30-40 cartridge is too long for the 336 action.  I think the 336 limit is about 2.6 inches.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.30-40_Krag

Case length    2.314 in
Overall length    3.089 in

It's called the .308MX.

If they loaded the 308 Marlin with 180-220 grain round nosed Core-Lokts I think it would be a great cartridge.  I have no interest in the rubber bullets.

The 7/308 ME would make an intersting round in a lever , but wonder if it could match the 7/08.
The 30-40 Krag toowould be of interst if some one would chamber this round again . Maybe somthing for the H&R handi !

Their are some 30-40 handis around.
I think i like the 338, but have seem O ammo
the rubber bullets are fine in the 45-70 and every thing else i have tried
My big problem with the 308mx and 338mx is the saftey, just don't like it
on any lever, guess that is why i buy "old" ;D

I would like to have the 30-40 in 336 or 1895 might be even better
but i guess that is not going to happen.

Old cartridge for an old lever.

Yeah thought the 44/40 and the 25/20 and the 32/20 were dead too!.

If there is a demand some one would make a run . We cryed for many years for a Laminated 35Cal. Marlin .
Guess What ?

Old cartridge for an old lever.

As mentioned earlier it won't fit.
