pin in hammer?
« on: March 21, 2010, 07:49:07 AM »
I'm looking to purchase another contender frame.  I have a question about the hammer/ square thingy in the hammer.  This one that I am looking at has a square little pin that is right behind the head of the hammer.  What is that pin, what does it do?   When I was looking at this frame,  I pushed the pin to one side, the spring flipped out of adjustment, I got my knife out to give the spring a little adjustment back into it's slot.  Then the pin moved back to original position.
what is that square piece for, is this going to be an ongoing problem?
Looking at the picture a little closer, I am not seeing the centerfire/rimfire adjustment screw on that top of the hammer?    Perhaps it is the angle of the picture that I can not see that portion.
Does this pin have something to do with that?  Safety?

Old style hammer. The square cross piece causes a pin to come out the front of the hammer. 2-3 dryfires and the pin goes away. Firing pin selector is seperate, you turn a rotating piece in the front of the hammer for rim/center fire.
