« on: March 20, 2010, 03:39:04 PM »
hello  im thinking about buying a handi rifle in 44mag.  can anyone tell me how these guns shoot out to 100 yds ?  would they work for deer  at 100  or less ?  i thought i read that maybe some of the older ones had oversize bore problems.  im looking at the synthetic rifle with scope base . thanks billd

I had an old one, traded it away, couldn't handle 4"-5" groups, new ones are better I think, others will let you know about the newer ones :(

I have one of the older "overbored" ones.  it shoots Hornady LE's all day just fine.  Thanks to Tim, Quidkdtoo, it's now a .445 Super Mag and it shoots all just fine....44 Special, .44 Russian, .44 Mag and .445.  They are an excellent 100 yard deer rifle, and with the right shooter are good for more than that.

Do it, you'll like it.

I have one of the last ones built on a SB2 frame it will shoot 2" or better at 100 yards, And yes it is a very good deer round out to about 150 yards. 8)

I've got one of the new ones.  If I do my part, it will cloverleaf 3 shots at 100 yards.  With the Leverevolution ammo, 3" high at 100 yards will be 3" low at 160 yards with plenty of energy for a deer.

Mine is a HY serial # seems to like the Hornady LE stuff well enough.  It has a Simmons Pro Diamond 4X32 on it. I have it shoot about 2.5" high at 75 yards. Its a great woods gun for the parts of N.Y. I can hunt with it.

I have one of the older 44's. I bought it new in 1996 and it shoots good. It won't make cloverleafs at 100 but I can bust clay pigeons at 100 with it all day long. I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger on a buck at 150 yds. with it.
