Range report; Mod 70 Featherweight .270
« on: November 13, 2003, 01:34:13 PM »
I purchased a used .270 Featherweight today. It came with a Nikon Monarch 3X9X40 & Leupold rings/bases. It seems to be an older model with nice wood. I grabbed a box of Remington 130 gr PSPs off the shelf and headed for the range.
1st shot at 50 yds was kissing the bull at 9:00. I gave it a few ckicks right and went to 100 yds. After correcting from a little low and left, I put 3 shots, all touching each other into the top of the bullseye.

Wow!!! Am I HAPPY!!!! :-D You are always gambling a little with a used gun purchase. This one really came out well!  :D

Tom,

It's a sweet sight to see bullets touching together.  I'm glad to hear that you got a great gun!  BTW, the scope is awesome too!  I have several Nikon scopes and I love them.

Awesome! Sounds like a great rifle. I'm a big fan of the .270 Winchester.

You have a great looking rifle in a great caliber. It will take anything in North America except the  brown bears. Shoot it until you wear the barrel out and then have it rebarreled.  :gun4: OOBuckshot

That's great! I have yet to see a model 70 that won't shoot well. Most just need bedding or a trigger job, some need nothing.

Big Tom,

That's great I can see why you're wrapped. When you say it is an older model, is it a pre 64 with the claw extractor?

I have a pre 64 M70 fwt 270 coming from the US as we write (I'm in Australia) and I will be wrapped if it shoots like your's. I'm a fan of the pre 64 featherweights. I already have a 308.
