This forum has been said to be out of control and has now been assigned moderators to watch out for personal attacks and such other things that violate GBO rules.

I have decided to “mute” anyone that I deem to be attacking another member. This is not a full ban but will only prevent the person who was “muted” from posting in open forum. First offense is 5 days, second is 10 days and third will be a full permanent ban.

If you do not agree with a member or a post they make then debate them on the facts, yours and theirs, but if it gets out of control and degrades to name calling then be ready to be “muted” .

Well it appears to me the libs have moved in and are killing another forum! they have already succeeded on some other gun, hunting type forums I use to go on.
I think this is by design! Divide and defeat. It's your site and your call, but if folks can't stand the heat they should stay out of the kitchen.
Like I say this is not the only site they have pulled this on and have managed to get the thing shut down. Just my two cents.

The GBO Terms of Use reads as follows:

"Personal Attacks are considered unacceptable at GBO and will result in removal from the GBO website, the manner in which these are handled will be at the discretion of the Administration. In cases of continued disagreements in open forum by multiple parties equal action will be taken with all involved parties, no one member will be shown special consideration in such cases regardless of membership status."

That section of the GBO Terms of Use has been in place for over 12 years now as is and unchanged.

So why do you want to piss and moan now that I am telling you I am going to enforce it?

I think that maybe you need to go read the GBO Terms of Use Policy:

Also take special note to this line:

"Trolls, GBO will not tolerate "TROLLS" anyone suspected of being a troll on the forums will be dealt with promptly."

So now how is it that the libs are trying to take over this site?

This will be good. Too many good topics degraded down into pissing matches and became almost comical. I think it is a good idea to implement....of course, it's your guys' site so my opinion is irrelevant, but I approve none the less.

A troll is a person who posts solely to incite commotion. USUALLY indicated not just by an unpopular opinion, but by the baseless supporting of it.

IE, if a person posted:

"George Washington was gay, and really a traitor!!!!"

Then that's a troll. It's a comment that pretty much no one truly believes, but if taken literally it will inflame the user base and set off a rash of postings that the troll then sits back and watches.

On the other hand, someone who said:

"Obama is a good president, and here's why . . . " (leaving this blank as I haven't actually seen real evidence of this), then rather than being an outright troll, they're merely expressing an unpopular opinion.

Typically, trolls should be ignored. Since they're just looking to incite a reaction, they'll continue to post on a forum so long as people keep responding to them. Their point isn't to debate, but rather to purposely see you argue till you're blue in the face.

The need to ignore them has given rise to the common internet phrase - "Don't feed the troll".

Is it like telling someone to go F off or worse?

Well any one of several things such as name calling, belittling, defaming, insulting or degrading a member would be construed as a “Personal Attack”

I think a little commonsense is all that is needed to know if something is a personal attack or not.

I couldn't agree more. I LOVE to debate, and of course like many, have beliefs. Attacking individuals is rude, and the mark of a poor sport. Name calling is simply unacceptable.

Not on this site. Again read the site rules. That is very specifically what sets this site apart from most out there and in my opinion why we are so successful.
