You know what really tears my britches? The fact that he was a good President, and he did rebuild our military and was responsible for the fall of the Soviet Union, but no one, none not one Republican/Conservative running for office or in office, quote him, emulate him or follow in his footsteps. He was successful, because of his beliefs and people voted for him because of them and he improved our situation. Why do they ignore that and act like his time is past?

Because they areNOT Conservative at all,, but have an R in front of their name & people blindly vote for them. As long as that happens they don't have to be like Reagan. Do you know any voters like that?

Oldshooter you were right on when you said "He was successful, because of his beliefs and people voted for him because of them and he improved our situation."

Anyone could tell regardless if they agreed with him on the issues, that he believed in, and loved America, and let people know it was up to them, and they could do it.  He had the majority of American people behind him and if not agreeing with him, at least respecting him.  If you have the people you probably have Congress as well.  The current president does not have the majority of people on his side, everyone knows it even if the media tries to hide it, you can't cover it up. This is why even though his party runs the majority in Congress, they still can't get the votes and implode on each other.  I am convinced after talking to people that there is a very large majority of people in this country that have no use for this president, for one reason or another, they see through the lectures and sales pitch.

Whoever has the people's respect will do better.  The people have to believe that at least...the president himself believes something.

How did I love thee Ronnie, let me count the ways ...

Your admiration for the American spirit,
Your faith in its people,
Your faith in its purpose,
Your support of the military,
Your hope that the whole world would be safer and stronger because of our influence ...

I know the secularists will disagree, although I would point you to your new pseudoscientists as reference, there is a lot to be said about positive leadership. When you have a guy who is upbeat, transparent, a straight shooter, genuinely likeable, who sticks to his convictions ... even if you disagree with some of his policy, its hard to not follow his leadership.

I liked Reagan , But lets not go putting any politician too high up on a pedestal. Remember it wasn't all sunshine.
Snapshot of Reagan's Tenure.

The Good
Reagan's policies are recognized as bringing about one of the longest peacetime expansions in U.S. history.
Real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth recovered strongly after the 1982 recession and produced five straight quarters of growth averaging 8.5%.
The GDP grew during Reagan's administration at an annual rate of 9.4% per year, the Real GDP (adjusted for inflation) increased 3.96% per year on average higher than the post-World War II average of 3.6%.

The moderate (depending on if your a fan of trickle down economics)
During Reagan's tenure, income tax rates of the top personal tax bracket dropped from 70% to 28% in 7 years (Trickle down Economics), while social security and medicare taxes increased.
Unemployment peaked at 10.8% in 1982 then dropped during the rest of Reagan's terms, averaging 7.5%, and inflation significantly decreased. A net job increase of about 16 million also occurred (about the rate of population growth). Reagan’s administration is the only one not to have raised the minimum wage.

The not so good
There was a massive increase in Cold War related defense spending that caused large budget deficits.
The U.S. trade deficit expansion, contributed to the Savings and Loan crisis.
In order to cover new federal budget deficits, the United States borrowed heavily both domestically and abroad,.
The national debt raised from $700 billion to $3 trillion.
The United States moved from being the world's largest international creditor to the world's largest debtor nation.
Reagan described the new debt as the "greatest disappointment" of his presidency.

To me if the new Debt was Reagan's greatest disappointment ,

In my opinion telling Michal Gorbachev to tear down this wall was on of his greatest achievements. That along with the freeing of the 53 hostages held by Iran for 444 days. The hostages were formally released into United States custody just minutes after Reagan was sworn into office. (I think cause Iran knew Reagan was no one to mess with. )

Hindsight being 20/20 , I do wonder if the Reagan administration would have still backed Iraq today with monies, helicopters and satellite intel during the Iran/Iraq conflict.

Out of all the presidents we have had though , he is probably the only one I would have liked to have met.
And Nancy was an elegant first Lady !!!

Even the best president needs to go after 8 years. I think term limits are the way you keep your great politicians good. And there are plenty of great ... not perfect ... great folks out there to throw in the mix. My guess is lots of the posters here could do a good job for a term even if it's just local politics. Reagan was an actor, loved people, America and listened to smart folks. Most of all he was willing to step in the gap. Saddle up gents, that's all we need.

  Right on Oldshooter;
If any of us are waiting for the perfect person to vote for..before we will vote; we have a long wait coming. Obviously, we won't meet that perfect being this side of Heaven.
Meanwhile, we may be allowing trash like we have to take over our government..because the "pretty good" candidate wasn't perfect. I'm not speaking now of any past election, but rather those coming. Will we accept the best available, or allow a really bad tyrant to take office by default...simply because there was no perfect candidate for which we could vote ?

Did I strike a cord, good!! But before you lie to yourself about who I voted for, I voted for Palin & the end result was the same as your vote, so your hope & change comment makes no sense. The difference is I will say that it won't happen again unless a real Republican Conservative runs, which is why I signed up 3rd party in the spring of last year. But the right R can get my vote, but any R can get yours & that's the difference.

If you get mad when someone asnswers your question, then don't ask the question. You asked "why do they ignore that & act like his time has passed" & I answered "Because they are NOTConservative at all & have an R in front of their name & people blindly vote for them." So, would you like to tell me what is incorrect about that response logically or do you want to be on the defensive again instead?

I agree with your term limits statement , but I am a bit of a cynic in believeing there are a lot of great folks out there to throw in the mix. Unfortunately , I think the good folks now shy away from politics because of the scrutiny they are held up to when they try and run. All of a sudden their whole life is held up a microscope nowadays and media blows every little thing out of proportion. and then when they can find no dirt on a particular person , they look at their family members or neighbors  or closes associates etc.

I for one could care less about the dirty irrelevant laundry. I have my own backyard to clean up before I comment on my neighbors!!!

Instead how about the media concentrate on the relevant when a candidate runs ???ie: Is this person qualified for This Job!!!!

Well the thread was about Reagan, and it's already been said regardless if you agreed with all of what he did, or some, or none...he was more respected by more people than most we have seen lately.  This is because he himself believed in something, and the people picked up on it, that is what makes a leader, that is what makes people follow a leader.  It is a special gift that not all have.  Nobody is perfect, and nobody can please everyone, we all have different views even at a place like this where most of us have things in common.  Reagan was special because he believed in himself, and in us, and somehow the people picked up on that and went with him, or at least many did.  Years after his death, they did a tribute on him, and even the left wing media admited years after he was indeed special and one of the greatest presidents ever.  Perfect..no.  But all knew he loved his country and the people in it, and would have done anything to try to keep them safe.  You could feel that he loved his country. Anyone feeling those things now?

   Bilmac,
That is red, and the blue is actually silver. That is my old (first year production) Ruger 10/22. I have put the walnut carbine stock & band away and use the pictured Butler creek stock. Fact is, it is no longer that color...I like to change those synthetic stocks now & then.
The photo is from 2-3 years ago...I like to photograph my first groundhog of the season , and that was it, along with my walking/shooting stick. I still use the 10/22 because it is so much more accurate than today's production ones. I shoots right alongside the "tricked out" 10/22s I've put together.
Below, see original photo and the current paint scheme on it.

Nope, not angry at all, merely stating I made a mistake, if I live longer I will make more, but I try very hard not to make the same ones.

You asked a question & I answered it, I asked what was incorrect about the response & you can't answer it.

You also ignored my statement that I can & would vote for an R again if he or she is the right R. Not one comment was made about a must vote for 3rd party, but very open to it if another RINO runs.

Yep!!

Nomo, I told you I knew the answer before I asked the question. Didn't really need your answer! But not only did you wanna answer it you wanted to gig me a little huh.  I know about rino's i know about socialism and tyranny too. and this president is all about both along with his legislature. I'd glady have a rino in office instead of a neighbor hood agitator with no experience with anything but agitation.

But people dont blindly just vote for them. some maybe, but most just pick the candidate that they wanna see run the country I picked McCain cause I didn't want obama running the country. Simple really.

By the way,(jimster correct me if I'm wrong) I think jimster was talking about the current president feeling those things, not you!

Its why I answered it like I did! I personally feel those things about my country or I wouldn't post here about my concerns. I agree with jimster about R Reagan as well

Oldshooter, I think it's a given that Obama doesn't feel that way, which is why I looked at the question differently & I think we all know that about Obummer.

Back to answering the question you asked first, I trully feel the Republicans have taken their votes for granted, feeling that Conservatives would just vote for them. I was actually not just bugging you, but pointing out what I did in the past as well, but the Rep. can't take my vote for granted anymore. If Conservatives can figure out a way to "weed out" the RINO's that would be great. I doubt it can happen, (I don't think there are over a dozen true Con. Congressmen)but it could & 3rd Party winning Nat. elections will be very hard as well. Here in AR. we have several Republicans running to unseat Dem. Blanche Lincoln. I am now a member of the Constitution Party, we don't haveanyone running, we researched the folks running & found one Republican who has been a Senator at the State level who allways votes with the Constitution. We are fully backing him & now the Republicans Statewide are payiing attention. If Conservatives ban together & back the best folks which in some occassions will be Independents, this will wake up the Republicans. If we merely vote for them they don't have to wake up. I don't know a simpler way to state this & I hope it is clear.

nomosendero, amazingly I comepletely agree with you about the office holders taking the people for granted, Lately its painfully obvious. I am no member of any party, yes I rarely if at all vote for a democrat, then its only because around here for years the democratic party ruled and if you wanted to vote for someone in a primary you voted  for democrats. I understand what you are saying, about making them aware of what we want . But I really think a third party will only give obama and the leftist a win in 2012. I am serious!  I like what you are doing but it must be within the republican party cause thats how it is done. we have a two party system, and it will take working within the parties to fix em. the Left knows this and have a machine running old chicago style. Have you seen it operate lately. We need to take back the conservative party and make it espouse the Reagan agenda again, from within I think.

Yes & we agree about Dems, they can't be in that Party if Conservatives. This Bluedog stuff is silly, there is no such thing as a "moderate" Dem, I am talking about the polititians, not the voters.

Working from within is great if a candidate can be found to support. If not, you don't lose anything going third party for 2 reasons.
1. If we elect the RINO, the party suffers because of the RINO governs as a Lib, while running as a Conservative, thereby destroying the party's credibility as has been done we must agree.
2. If the 3rd party wins or the Rep loses because the Conservatives voted 3rd party, this can be a wake up call for the future. They may choose not to learn, but the info is there.

Long term, the Party will never be reformed if we vote for progressives/RINOs within, it just can't happen.
