my small rant - Taxes (please bare with me)

Ok first let me start off , I understand I am blessed , I am also not whining - I bring this up only to make a point out what I think is one of the major problems plaguing the American worker nowadays.

My employer does not give annual pay increases. Instead my employer give bonuses based on performance of the company. I personally think this is a good thing.  This provides me incentive to ensure my employer does well in a given year and he rewards me for helping him achieve his goal, He wins = I win.

Well this year we did marginally well (tough year all the way round) , However my employer still decided we worked very hard and wanted to still reward us though company performance was not steller.

He provided me with a bonus of a little over 1,200.00 (this is where I understand I am blessed, there are those who work very hard each year in America and receive nothing. )

Ok now my rant - out of the 1,200.00 My employer generously gave me I received 700.00.
Where did the rest go , You guessed it TAXES. over 500.00 and some change was deducted
for all sorts of various taxes. What is wrong with this picture?

And Guess what next Tax year I get to claim this additional 700.00 I received on my tax form only again to have it taxed one more time. and if I put the money in the bank and make any interest off it , Guess what I have to claim that as well so it also  can be taxed.

Is it me or is there something wrong with this picture ? how many times will the same monies be taxed until it becomes vapor?

Above all else , I believe the oppressive tax code is what is wrong with America  and what affects the U.S worker the most. Thanks for letting me share and rant. I will shut up now and once again be blessed at least I received some additional dollars at a time when so many are losing their Jobs , or having hours cut , or did not receive anything. I just wanted to make a point about how infuriated I am with our tax system.

Yep. you are right.  A lot of us are in the same boat.  If you just work for wages, we are at the mercy of the government.  If you have a small business, it may have small loopholes and ways to hide income but most of us just pay through the nose.  I've been looking for an honest politician to vote for but so far I haven't found one.   Since most of us cowboys don't have a plane to fly into the IRS building, all we can do is track in a little cowsh** on their carpet when we get audited.

Not exactly.  If he took taxes out already, then it'll be included in your W-2 already, so you wouldn't need to report it seperatly from what's listed on your W-2 (that only applies to income that was previously untaxed).  You'll only be paying additional taxes if the $500 initial taxes were insufficient.  If it was correct, then the taxes are paid.  You may even end up with a refund.

I predict Taxes in the US for those making greater than the mean income, in the very near future, will exceed 60% of that income when totaled.

State Income
State Property

County, City the same
Telecommunications, license fees, you name it.

When you find all the "hidden" taxes you are at 60% or better now. You left off fuel taxes both federal and state and sin taxes on alcohol and tobacco and many more.

OK!
Now you got me started!!
I receive a royalty check from a gas/oil well in Texas. All kinds of taxes have been taken out, Federal.State, county ,etc. Then I receive it here in Colorado and guess what?? Taxed again same story as before!!
And then I see where alot of this tax money is spent by Feds and state on crap, and a lot goes to illegal`s here in Colorado!!
I will stop here before I get cranked up about this HC mess!!

The bonus money if put in the bank on savings and earns interest you will have to pay taxes on the earned interest.
If you die then they will take out estate tax if your estate is worth enough to tax.
If you leave it to the kids they will have to pay inheritance tax on it and if they put it in the bank and earn interest they will pay on that also.
There is no end to taxes!!!
You are better off to spend it on your family while you are alive.

This should make you feel better
I paid out over 10 grand in income tax this year now the payroll thieves want an additional $1500.00
All this seems bad enough until you factor in that my employer matches my taxes bring the grand total to about 25,000.00 when the smoke clears. This is about 42-44% of what I make.
All that money and I am not a tax payer I am a victim of payroll theft.

TM, you know capital gains taxes aren't indexed for inflation, and are singly the most growth inhibiting tax form available.  Why exercise a capital gain based upon inflation alone, or why improve property to improve efficiency, when liquidating that property for other investment will cost you 15%.  This is worsened by the fact that in many circumstances capital investment occurs with after tax dollars, in essence, double taxation.
