« on: March 10, 2010, 10:04:54 AM »
Got a set of pallet wood from JoeS and decided to change the appearence. Here is the "new" wood on my 45 70.

Took out the pistol grip and sanded it real smooth. Applied linseed oil and used 0000 steel wool to take that off. I did this 4 times.  Then took Tru Oil hand rubbed till almost dry. Let that dry and took it off with oooo sw again. Did this four times. The 5th 6th & 7th coats, I did not use the steel wool. I rubbed each coat in, til it was almost dry. Dried it overnite, and applied Johnsons Wax and buffed it lightly I sorta suprised myself.
                                        Thanks for looking

PS: No stain at all.                                                                  Jim   <><   <><   <><

Very nice job!  Maybe there is hope for that old yellow pallet wood stock I have laying around.  Naw, I don't have enough patience for working on wood!  You did a great job, congratulations.  44 Man

You did a fantastic job on that stock! No way it can be referred to as pallet wood anymore.

Looks very nice indeed!  I wish that someone would make a replacement stock in the "classic" configuration with a shadow line check piece.

Looking good Jim, love the straight grips, have some that were done by MSP-ret and they are great, I have to learn to take a
little more time for the finish. Beautiful job! My son and I are about to try cutting one down ourselves instead of intruding on
Andy's good nature further(even though he's the best) and see what happens. Love wood cause plastic ain't got no soul!  Fred
