I haven't been pricing stocks but I have inquired with Gun Stocks Inc, a GB sponsor. They have real reasonable prices. I was looking at unfinished - don't know about finished stocks. Check them out.

If it's the set I'm thinking, they were worth every cent, but I've seen some average wallnuts in good cond. go for $40.

I sold a birch set of a Glenfield 30 on eBay for nearly $160.00.  A new walnut set from Marlin is about $140.00.

why would they be worth $286.00? I don't remember anything special about them.
Maybe i need to start looking at the stocks i see for sale.

Here are some different grades of 336 stocks.

This set went for just under $300

I replaced a stock on a 336 last year and paid 200.00 for it. It came with a marlin recoil pad and real nice walnut.

I see some pretty nice sets on eBay go for less than $200.00.  With some careful shopping I got a new walnut set for about $80.00.

Yea, your right Swampy. E-Bay does have some pretty good buys from time to time. I have bought new unfinshed stocks for a couple of savages I own for under 50.00.

Yea
Ithink i could find a set if i ever need to for under $286.00 think i could biy new for less.
I don't really think i need a $280-300 set of stocks on a gun i may bust brush with.

that sounds awful high to me too, I bought a real nice 336 Marlin last year , made in 1976 for $300 with a 3X9 scope, sling  and a box of shells.
