I did something today, I said I would never do.  I bought a Taurus well--traded to be exact.  I believe it is a model 460 steel version has a 4 in barrel ported (which is another first for me) 5 shot.  It is lightly used.  Serial number lookup on taurus site puts it as a 2003.  I was fiddling with it while the guy looked over my gun.  He was getting close to what I wanted for it so ask him if he would come up to meet me for a trade and he did.

While fiddling with it I could not believe how tight this think locks up, cylinder gap is super close (will measure when I find my gauges).  Trigger pull is a tad heavy but very clean and has a crisp break.  I really did not need this gun for anything but liked the feel of it and it appears to be a very sound pistol despite the Taurus on the side of the barrel.  I already reload for 45 colt so that is easy. (the gun came with 50 rounds of ammo as well).  I will likely use it a CCW gun in some carry conditions, like while hunting or other times it can be easily concealed.  It is legal to hunt with in Oklahoma for deer as the min barrel length allowed is 4 inch--so that is an option but I have better ones>likely will be a back up in case of problems with other guns.  Also, would be used for finishing those downed animals that you come up on that have not yet perished.(when rifle and bow hunting) 

Would like to know anything you can tell me about it as I do not show it is listed on the taurus site anymore.  Also, need some help with finding holsters for it.  I would like a pancake holster and a inside the waist band for it.---Would it be a the same as a K frame?  The heavy lug on the barrel may make it hard to find holsters as well.

Yup that's about the same generation as mine. The story is on here if you search around for it. That one took two trips back to Taurus before they finally replaced it. I never fired it as the frame was cracked and I figured it wasn't safe to fire. First time they couldn't find the crack. Second time I put clear tape over it and drew them a picture.

I sent it thru the dealer the second time and he agreed to take the promised replacement in trade before it got there as I dealt with him a LOT. I have no clue what the replacement looked like and don't care.

I still hadn't learned my lesson tho and bought the 12" M44. That story is on there also. It tossed bullets side ways at 25 yards. Oh yeah I learned my lesson after that one.

I have read those stories and many others.  Won't know till I fire it but am hoping I got one that slipped through the cracks and made it out as a good gun.  They make some really cool guns, just wished they would start a quality control department.

I bought a Rossi lever a few months back.  Did not know it was a Taurus in disguise.  I opened it up and it was full of metal shavings.  Was shooting it off hand at Dads at about 25 yards with some 38's.  Best I could do was between 4 to 6 inches.  After my action and trigger job it holds those same 38's nice and tight.  If I had not intervened when I did the burs and shavings would have chewed this gun up.  Luckily I had fired it just enough to show me where the problems were in that action.  I think the shavings were from other burs that had broke loose.  Should never have left the factory like that.

Well GB lets just say I have low expectations of Taurus but high exceptions of this gun.  I tested and looked at everything I could on it and it passed everything.  That doesn't mean it will shoot good but is about all you can do short of firing one (I have handled new Taurus revolvers that had timing issues, did not lock up very tight and other more minor things that make me wonder how it got out of the factor).  I may learn my lesson on this one as well.  But I will be going back to Ruger's as I have not learned my lesson with them yet either.  My only bad one I traded today--Old model Vaquero shot a great group but was to far from point of aim for my taste (I tried a lot of loads--looked in to getting it fixed and decided I would rather have something else--It just got to be one of those headaches I got sick of messing with), all the rest have been great.

They have some really innovative guns and if you find one that is well made it is a joy to own and one to hold onto. I wish I'd kept my two Raging Bulls really but I had no real need of them. I'd still love to own a 460 Ti that works as it should with 6" barrel but doubt I'd gamble on another after my luck with them.

I had a 4" .357 Mag Ti gun that was a nice one. I wanted a 6" tho not a 4" and wound up letting it go in hopes of picking up a 6" .357 but never found one. I have since picked up a couple of S&W 66s so no longer feel any need for the Taurus.

IF they would just again pay attention to detail and build them right like they did at one point in time they could be a serious contender in the handgun market place.

Do you happen to remember any holsters that fit these 460's?  I tried it in my 686 holster it was a close fit but a little to loose.  I think a K-frame holster might fit.  Hopefully someone will chime in here that has one of these.  I found a Blackhawk pancake holster last night that listed it fit the 460 but did not care for the look of it.  I really prefer leather.

I honestly can't recall what I used for a holster back then. I think it was likely an Uncle Mike's but just don't recall. I have a pile of holsters around here and when I get a new gun I try to find one that works before searching for a new one.

My standard advice on any taurus is........ completely disassemble......... polish all surfaces of all internal parts...... reassemble and shoot. Doing so generally cures the most common function problems.

If your looking for a just everyday carry holster , the Uncle Mikes #2 fits well . For a more ( Hide-Able ) look at some of the ones for the S&W K frames , they do fit .

I grabbed the Uncle Mikes and a pancake style holster for a S&W K/L frame as well.  Both fit and should work well.

I finally got to shoot it this weekend.  Only got to fire it 5 shots before the cattle moved around in dads pasture to a point a clear shot was no longer possible but that is all I needed for the time being.  Load development is next, and is already underway.  I was happy with the accuracy with what I have tried so far.  Will get in a few hundred rounds with load development and decide if it is a keeper or not.  Stimpy thanks for the speed loader tip, will get some on my next order.  Going to get a local saddle smith to make me some loops for my pancake holster so it can be carried IWB.  I have a lot of shooting to do before I can comment on this gun much but was pleased when I pulled the trigger it went bang and hit what I was aiming at with a nice little group.  Thanks for everyones help. 

PS, I am looking for wood grips now.  May have to try my hand at making some.

I have a tracker in .44 mag......I took it to the local smith and had him work on the trigger and slick it up a bit......

I bought it 3 or 4 years ago, and it's been great.  I don't shoot it a lot as I prefer 45acp, but it's got a few 1000 rounds through it and had no problems. 

Watch the screws, mine shot them loose a few times.....finally added a bit of blue loctite to prevent it from happening.....

It's my go to gun while hiking in the Cherokee National Forest......

I was attracted by the ads, thinking I could use a 45 revolver w/ snake shot loads when fishing.  I found a 4" and so far  it shoots well.  I like the adjustable sights, had the Uncle Mike's Holster already to fit it, so that was OK, and it shoots pretty good groups with a variety of over the years collected duty ammo.  I'm not gonna win a PPC match with it, but don't break in my house! More 5 rds clips I haven't found, but  I have not used all 5 that came with the gun yet, So?  I did run across 2 Timber Rattle snakes mating in one of my ground blinds before bow season.  Roe V Wade did not apply.

I got a recommendation for the HKS brand speed loaders for the charter arms bulldog in 44 and the fit perfect in the 45.  I am having issues with the uncle mikes holster riding up out of my pants.  I quit using it.  I had a good belt on too.  I think it is the plastic clip.  Mine has done excellent and am very happy with it.  I am keeping an eye out for a 44 mag in a 5 shot now as well.

I am curious.  My .45 Tracker loads with 5-shot moon-clips.  Rounds don't extract w/o the clips,  How do you make the weapon work w/ a .44 speedloader that does not use a moon-clip?  If it does work, I'm glad to hear it.  Thanks.

Oh, you must have a 45 ACP.  Mine is 45 colt.

I do have the .45 ACP.  My bad, did not catch that in your post.  The Uncle Mike's holster I recommended was a pancake style outside belt holster.  Given my former profession, concealed carry was taken to new heights with me.  Before inner tubes on Glocks (BTW Kel-tec Range.com has a template for cutting inner tube rubber grips for pistols1) I used multiple  rubber bands, Pachmeyer rubber grips, Hogue rubber grips, Clip Grips w/ J frame .38s and 1911 Colts.Being a "big man", the above items and a snug belt could hide lots of guns.  I like my .45 ACP Taurus, it is about the same size as a M-15 S&W .38 I carried for 20 yrs. in the AF, in a better caliber, with cheap speedloaders and cheap ammo!
