Well I am going to throw a few out there:

I have owned every make of scope from BSA to Swarvoski. My favorite three and what they are on:

Leupold VXIII-L (the one with the contour to sit down on the barrel) 50mm on a Browning A-Bolt 243
Leupold VXII (I think it is the VXII) 56mm on a Browning X-Bolt 30-06
Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40mm on a Browning BAR 30-06

I have Pentax and Bushnell also and don't care for either. I haven't tried the Elite line from Bushnell yet, but I may put one on my Handi if accuracy deserves good glass.

If its hits you want in the right places use the equipment that get them there. For some the inexpensive scopes are enough and get the job done. When you reach the point that you shoot better than your equipment, upgrade.

This seems to imply that inexpensive scopes are in some way inferior to expensive scopes.

I use a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5 x 14 on my .204.  It is middle of the road for $$ and does it all, especially with low light.

I didn't mean to insinuate that at all in my reply. I own and use several <$100 scopes from 32-50mm of several different brands. Out of the lower end scopes I have used, Konus Pro and Tasco World Class are my favorites with Simmons coming in a close third. I understand purchasing what the wallet allows and often do not myself buy high end scopes because of the cost, but if you can save the money to buy good glass I would recommend it. I am wanting to try one of the Nikon Edg also.

In places where it matters, YES. I think maybe your "fog" is finally clearing Swampie!! :D  ;) ;D Don't compare them on a clear, sunny day. Compare them in a lo lite scenario. Either in dark timber or in the lo lite of dawn and dusk. And don't even think of trying to tell me that they are the same. We have all read you say many times about your eyes. Just like the rest of us, as we grow older the eyes begin to fail. Better quality glass and coatings flatly work better by being clearer and allowing the transmission of more lite thru them. You do not find quality ground glass or expensive hi tech coatings in cheap scopes. Adequate? Sure maybe for some.

Gcrank1 said it very well " For some the inexpensive scopes are enough and get the job done." I do not, in any way mean to look down on the guy who uses cheaper scopes. (HECK, I do to for some things!!) All I am saying is don't fool yourself into thinking that they are equal. If it matters to you, buy the best optics you can afford. If it doesn't or its just a casual plinker, get what works and save the $$ for that "special" rifle/pistol. I have a number of cheap scopes too and for what I need and use them for, they have been fine. the question was whats your favorite, mine is a matte LEUPOLD VXII 2x7.
