The 870's win the day
« on: February 26, 2010, 03:36:33 PM »
Well today was the last day I was going to be able to go squirrel hunting this season, so the father in law and I went out to one of the old places we used to hunt. The limit here is 8 per hunter. We killed 14 squirrels. It was the first time that I had been able to hunt with his jack russel terrier and he was amazing.

The only thing that was ironic about this hunt is that the first thing we did was run into the game warden (we were hunting his land with permission) and right before we were leaving a guy that owns the land adjacent to the wardens thought we were trespassing and took it into his liberty to protect his land. This man emptied a 22 rifle at us and we weren't even on his land. We were close to the line, but not on his side.

Needless to say we had an interesting evening.

Well I started to shoot back, but I as angry as I was at that point I would have killed him. I am not judge, jury or executioner unless he is threatening my wife or mother and neither were there. I made him call the warden yesterday and admit to it. I am not pressing charges since the guy come to find out has some mental problems. The warden is going to do something about it, but he wouldn't tell me what until he got permission.

I agree with you on both terms. I just really didn't want to have to live with killing the old man when it could be avoided. Some of the guys here who are/were law enforcement or military have hinted to the what they have seen happen. I have seen first hand the after shock of someone who shot a guy in self defense and since it could be avoided, I walked away. Now had he hit me or had it been on my private property it would have been a different story. I think the gun removal is what the warden is going for. I will find out in due time.

I'm not gonna arm chair quarter back Daman, as I wasn't there. I'm just sayin given my past experience with morons like that is, I personally would shoot back. He might be tryin to scare me and not intend to hit me, but he has already broke the seal on the bottle, so he needs to be prepared to take a swig.

Thanks Dee. I appreciate when two men can agree to disagree. Guys the moral of the story is be careful when you are out there hunting. It will be up to you if the situation ever finds you in it as to what you will do.

The situation was rectified by the warden. He had all the guns removed from the mans possession and he is not allowed to purchase anymore.

And how did he manage to do that?  Legally?   :-\

I did not ask. I don't particularly care. If he did good if he didn't fine. Just what the warden told me. I did not push the matter, but Richard you are more than likely correct unless they took it to court and had court orders to remove the weapons from his possession.

Stories been told and opinions have been given.  I am worried about what is starting to be said.  Granted we all have the god given right to defend our lives and the lives of our loved ones, but there is something to be said about not sounding like a bunch of trigger happy vigilanties and giving anti's ammuntion to use against us.
