I still say all this is not needed.  I chambered .379 bullets in my brass in that barrel and it fit tight, but it fit flush with the back face of the barrel.  As I mentioned originally, seat the bullets slowly and turn them.  They'll seat right and with a uniform lump around the neck, not lop-sided which will give you and extreme thickness across the neck and really tight chambering.

My brass must have a thicker neck than yours did because it will not chamber the round with a .379 cast Lee bullet. The only way it will, is if you take a mallet and drive the case in the chamber.I will not do that. I will not let this little problem WHIP me. I fire formed 20 or so cases with the resized bullets and I will work on the problem some more tonight. Thanks All for the input .     26-t

26-T, looking back at your 1st post you mention going from a .379 to a .3765 which doesnt group (no surprise). Is that real or a typo that you meant to be .3785? Can you try a .378? that dia may solve most of your trouble if cast of no harder than WWt (BHN 10ish), but a softer alloy may be better.

Could be ???  I've fired my brass at least three times each by now so it may have thinned a bit.  ???

I made the resize die .3765, to get a cartridge that will chamber. I took a snap gage and measured the inside of the chamber at the front of the neck and the thickness of the brass ,totaled it up and that is what it took to chamber a round in this barrel, with the brass and bullets that I have. The fire formed brass now measures .378 id. in its unsized condition. It will expand up to .379 or .380 easy. I will have have to cast some.379 bullets as I am out now ,and give it a try . 26-t

No lump and no bumps!!!See the attachments.  The .379 Lee (as cast) bullets fit fine in the fire formed Winchester 38-55 brass. It will chamber this combo. I will try to shoot a group after work on the 3-3-10.      26-t

Yikes. a lot of fuss.. Starline brass. Lazer cast .380 bullet 27 grains of 3031 or Triple 7 up to the base of the bullet.. No problem..  Nuff Said..

If only Graf's had Starline brass 38-55 in stock I would have got some. When Willie get some in I will pick some up. But for now I will use the fire formed Winchester If it were easy every one would do it. 26-t

I wish I had your mould! The Lee we have throws .380+ which is that tad too large without sizing (even after varying the alloy).

Blackhawker you were right, BUT it takes a whole lot more work to get it work than just dropping a round in the chamber. Winchester brass is made for a .377 bullet, not a .379/.380 that it takes to get a Handi to shoot well. So yes you were right it will chamber a 38-55 cartridge. But in the case of this barrel, Winchester brass is not the best choice for this barrel. It may be fine for all the rest of the 38-55 but not mine. Thanks to all !! 26-t

Round and round we go......
I exclusively use Winchester brass and have loaded .379 bullets into it and chambered them, for the most part, easily.....IN YOUR CURRENT BARREL (as I originally stated).  In fact, the first day I got that barrel I dropped several of my loaded rounds right into it.  I guess this is turning into who is right and who is wrong though.....???  Whatever......
Whatever the case, you've worked the problem out.  Get out and shoot it.  That's what really counts.  Good luck and have fun with it.
