question about the thingamabobber
« on: February 25, 2010, 12:42:54 PM »
ok,I'm curious about the button on the bottom of the 1895 (and 1894,and I'm sure the 336)the one right in front of the lever....does it serve any purpose other than making game scaring noise? I know it's attached to the loading ramp, but what does it actually DO??

[what does it actually DO??]

The piece that projects downward from the lifter/carrier blocks another cartridge from exiting the magazine while the lifter is raised/raising another cartridge up to chamber level so the bolt will feed it into the chamber.

IOW, it is the cartridge stop.

Marlin made a hole in the bottom plate, for it to protrude through when the lifter is in it's lowest postion - w/o the hole, the entire receiver would have to be made deeper to hide it, and therefore also bigger/heavier.

And then, YOU wouldn't buy one, and have your curiosity arosed.  ;)   ;D

Ranger44,
Thank you,I thought it may be a way to hold cartridges in the tube and remove one from the chamber......I appreciate the insight ;)
