Tim's correct about 45/70's. And by the way, I have shot clover leaf groups at 100 yards out of one of my H&R/NEF 45/70's with reloads made with a Lee Loader. A Hornady 350 grain RNFP bullet on top of 28.0 grains of 2400...A sweet shooting and VERY accurate load, made up with a simple Lee Loader....<><....:)

  Thanks for all the input, very helpful.
         Like I said I have 3 rifle barrel & 3 Lee loaders all shiney and new. One of each is 45-70.
                  Kind of hate to get them dirty.
        Very glad to hear they extract in the handi. 
  Bought a pound of imr4064 & several boxes of factory ammo for each caliber. Try to get to the range turn them to brass.
   I have ordered a lee powder scale & a speer manual will get a deburring tool & a primer pocket tool.

Loading lead bullets is no problem, just make sure case mouth is expanded enough to allow bullet to be seated.

For a guy with a tight budget do you consider this kit the only alternative for reloading or if it better to spend a little more money on the Lee 50th Anniversay kit or the Lee  Breech Lock Challenger kit? I know it's not Redding or RCBS  :-\

I just simply like my Lee Loaders. I've got a sort of Japanese tea ceremony routine worked up with them. I tend to make 10 to 15 cartridges at a time and that half an hour is quite relaxing and meditative. Of course, I'm a slow firing guy so I don't need lots of rounds to make a worthwhile range outing. If you want volume, a Lee Loader is probably not the way to go.

concur...its relaxing because it is ritualistic.
Lee Loaders are for the people who appreciate NEF's more than AR's.

I started with the Lee Classic for my 45-70 and only got a single stage press so I could be certain that the bullet seating was uniform. I have a Lee Classic for all my calibers but still use the single stage press for seating the 45-70 (I shoot it the most and the farthest, so consistency is a big issue).

+1 on getting a scale though. Dippers alone just don't cut it for smokeless.

With all of the powder handling crapola I have, I still reach for the Lee dippers, once I know what charge they're throwing out of any given batch of powder.  It's almost amazing how a person can get into a rythm with something so simple. 

I do know this, I have never seen a dipper throw a charge greater than what was listed on the included chart.  I simply think that they are sized to never allow that to happen.

Started using a Lee Loader back in the 80's because I couldn't find a die set for the Win .225. (Did later)

Used Lee Loaders there after, when ever a new caliber happened to show up.

The only problem was some range picked up brass for the 7mm Mag, guy was shooting it out of a BAR.

Had a few cambering problems, but as the cases weren't trimmed, I suspect the problem was length.

Mostly now I just use the Challenger Press(s), but still have all the Lee Loaders, even found one for the 12 ga (not made anymore), just for 12 ga slugs.

I like the slow and steady, double check each step, method as well, and it is relaxing.
Haven't purchased a turret press yet, and probably won't unless I decide to mass produce one cal of pistol ammo.

As far as the Handi's go, the 45/70 seem to shoot well, and haven't had a problem with extraction.
The re-loaded brass was fired in the same rifle, as the first time, but I did check and trim the cases, not much on the first go around.
