No Overide of DNR Secretary Bill
« on: February 24, 2010, 12:04:20 AM »
O.k., so the state house failed to over-ride the Gov veto of the DNR secretary bill. It would SEEM like the average sportsman would want to have the DNR advisory board(or whatever they are called) choose the DNR secretary. When one digs deeper you may not be so sure. Did you know that most dems are for the change? & republicans against the overide? Did you know that the NRA was against the overide? The DNR advisory board is reported to be firmly left of center politically. There is a good chance the next gov will be a republican. Maybe this isn't the time to have this board choose the DNR secretary?

Spot on my friend. I have been watching this closley and the 1st thing you must ask yourself is why? are the Dem in favor of such a thing? Most dems were out ther trying for a knee jerk reaction from sporstmen to go along with them, after all, what the hell does a Governer, who knows nothing about "deer Hunting" doing appointing a Beaurucratic Know nothing about "the outdoors" and HUNTING. Well, it goes just a little deeper than that.
Most importantly, an appointee of the Governer, you, the public can get to, IF, you don't like his policies, etc. You do that by way "OF" the governer. If he/she is appointed by the board, they have a contract, you do not have a say until such time said contract is up, and then whom do you complain to, The Board? You must also understand that alot of The Board is also made up of Doyle's boy's. Gee, I wonder what kind of person they would appoint? How do you change an appointee of the Gov.? Get rid of the Governer, the new one will put in place his own. You can also bet that a DNR board will give that contract length to exceed a 4 year term, count on it.
The DNR does not only, oversee Fish & Game, In fact the DNR is the MOST powerful agency in the state, bar none. ENVIROMENTAL ISSUES, everything goes through the DNR, everything. I don't know about the rest of you but, the last thing I would want is a bunch of left handed, extreme, narrow minded, agenda driven, anti hunting, anti gun, liberal wack jobs making the decisions about our environmental issues.
Another thing that comes to mind is the positive growth of yours and my state. An example to the extremist's in charge would be, Let's say a developer wanted to build a strip mall along a hwy.. The DNR has to approve the site through studies and what not, before they will give a permit. OH! OH! Maybe there is a puddle of water there there for 1 month out of the year, usually May. Wet land!!!, can't move foward with your request. Far fetched? hardly, as it is done in this state all the time. But who cares about a developer? Got a nice piece of property you would like to build your dream home on? dig a pond? good luck, you, are now the devoloper.
I can't believe it took that Bald headed, special interest loving, wannabe confict took this long to finally do something right. Thank goodness he's about gone. I say wannabe confict because if he was affiliated with any other party, what he did to this state's money i.e. taxpayer dollars, over the past years the dems would have him in a jail cell.
What needs to be done now is to elect a Governer whom wants to take the step to put his foot down on spending, who wants to put this state back in a pro business, pro mfg. desirable state to do business in. Telling them it's either our way or the hiway, as in this current admin. is not the answer. Along with all of that we WILL get new leadership into the DNR. IF, we don't like it WE CAN, do something about it.
AND, Don't take my word for it, research it for yourself and come to your own conclusions. Want to start a new topic, How about taking the game&fish side of the DNR and putting on in it's own? Assigning a DNR board composed of non political beaurocrats, a mix of biologists, and sportsman concerned about the future of hunting & fishing in Wis. and not just how much money they can make off of us.  Thoughts?
