GOT ONE!!!!!

well,
      I was at the gun show saturday and LUCKED OUT!!!! I was looking at a Marlin 45-70 guide gun,stainless with a scope for $650 and my friend says "hey,I think that may be one (marlin 45-70),and sure enough,there was a guy walking around trying to sell one. I asked him how much he wanted for it and he said "I was tryin for $425,then $400....but I'll take $375 if you want it".MAN,I didn't have any cash on me,but had brought two guns I never shoot to trade,I asked if he wanted to trade and he said he needed the money...I told him if he'd hold it for me,I'd get him his money,he said ok,and I got his cell number and went and got my guns out of the truck (Remington 870 and a Ruger Mark II) Sold both in about fifteen minutes,paid him for the gun and walked out with a Marlin 1895ss 45-70 and a BIG grin!

well,it's not stainless steel,SS is just in the model number...I have no idea what it means,lol

as for the range report,I propped on the side of a pine tree and shot at a milk jug about fifty yards away and put 5 rounds inside 4 inches with Remington 405 gr ammo,then I went to the bench (didn't go there first because I wanted to make sure it was at least close AND I was afraid it was gonna kick the snot outta me,lol). I shot two rounds with iron sights off bags at 100 yards and they were both 2 inches low and 1 inch (center to center) apart...I am MORE than happy!!

What length is that barrel? Why did I think a guide gun had a shorter barrel?

Thanks ya'll.....this gun is just a real pleasure to shoot.........definitely one of my favorite guns ;D

Oldshooter,You misunderstood me,sir....I was looking at a guide gun when the fella walked by with a different gun..1895SS....it has a 22" barrel,and you are correct in thinking the guide guns are short (18" barrel)

this is the new one like mine....mine has micro-groove rifling and no checkering on the stock
