Marlin Parts Question
« on: February 17, 2010, 12:35:28 PM »
Can you tell me appx. what year these parts were made?  The barrel is supposed to be a Micro-Groove.  Let's presume they all came from one gun.

I think you can find the serial number and then go to the Marlin FAQs at the top of the page.
The serial number should tell you the year of manufacture.

Or am I missing something...

Yes, others are saying 1955. None of these parts have a SN.

Swampy,
Have you posted this over on MO? There are a couple of guys on that site that will probably know the answer.

Microgroove was introduced in 1953. So it can't be older than that.
The barrel side mount I believe was a version sold at Sears & Robucks. That started in 1954. So it can't be older than that.

Does the barrel say "Golden"? That started in 1957.

Assuming it doesn't say Golden and top D&T started in 1956, I would guess 1954-1955.

Unfortunately you are missing the receiver. That would tell the whole story.

[None of these parts have a SN.]

FWIW, Marlin stamps the serial number of EVERY receiver to it's matching stock, when they're fitted together at the factory - so they can be reunited after separation for finishing.

The SN should be stamped into the tang inletting, in the forward end of the buttstock pictured.

That's no guarantee, however, that a particular stock is original to the non-serial numbered parts pictured - only to it's original receiver.

The receiver isn't among these parts.
