And why can't you have them all?  :)

While that is a good price, I picked up my 'old' 30-30 a few years ago for $125, and passed up another (dumb move!) of the 'new' production for $150 last fall.  Would I buy it for $175?  Yes, in a heart beat!  There's just something about the 30-30's.  They are enough gun, yet light and well, 'Handi'.  Hope you can find the extra to get that one.  (try to haggle him down to $150  :) )  44 Man

I'm buying the next one that comes down the pike.  Does anyone here have any idea when they might build the next batch?

One member was told by CS they wouldn't be making any new barrels until March, whether that's true or not is anyone's quess, information from Madison CS isn't always accurate.  :-\

PawPaw,
Like Tim said I spoke with CS about a week ago asking about a 30-30 barrel. I was informed they were back ordered and that February was a zero production month. He also stated that they should start being available towards the end of March. I hope his information is correct because I am also waiting for one.

30-30 makes for a very versatile handi.....if you reload there's cast PB,cast GC,Jacketed FN,Jacketed spitzer,a wide selection of bullet weights. Add to that it's a rimmed cartridge @ 40,000 psi or less, low recoil, makes for a versatile rifle in my mind...

I concur thoroughly and I'm a big fan of the cartridge.  I've got a couple of Win94s in my all-too-small collection, but I want the Handi to play with pointy bullets in the caliber.  We all know the danger of using spitzer bullets in a tube magazine, and I'd like to work up some Handi loads using bullets we don't often see in the .30-30.

At any rate, it's high on my wish-list and I'll start paying attention around the end of March and see if there are any in the production pipeline.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I just learning to reload. I was given 3k 125 grain rem psp I wouls like to find a good load to drive about 200 yards from the handi. I tink this would be an excellent critter getter for our small deer and grove hogs.

i shot mine for the first time yesterday. It's like my 357...hard to find a load that WON'T shoot well ;).....light recoil and so easy to hit with. If you reload you can make a single shot 30-30 do just about anything you need it to do out to 250 yds and most of us shouldn't be shootin at game farther away anyway. The 45-70 and 357 max guys will probly throw cabbages at me for saying this but the 30-30 Handi is one of the best shootin, most versatile Handi's i've owned. I'm thinkin my next handi will be a syn stocked(all-weather)30-30 with a rear peep and front post, maybe chop the barrel 2" to balance the weight a little. Maddening stuff, huh! Like I really need two 30-30 handis ::)

I have had great luck with all the .30 cal. like that too, they digest most everything Ive made. Springfield Armory determined way back that the 1:12 twist was the one to use for up to 200gr. bullets. No wonder the 30-30, 308, etc. work so well for cast and jacketed.
I remember an old timer who said all he needed was a .22RF, a 30-30, a 45-70 and a 12ga. and he was good for everything.

Made a good hit @275 yards with it using a 130 grain Barnes X Maddening stuff, huh! Like I really need two 30-30 handis ::) We have three of them (Toppers)and I still stop and look at em when I see one.

I have only 2 H&R rifles at the moment, A model 158 that I paid about $75.00
dollars for new. and an even older Shikari in 45-70. I honestly do not know how many
deer have fallen to them. My favorites are still those neat little revolvers they used to make
though.
