300 gr TSX FN
« on: February 15, 2010, 04:24:59 PM »
Hello guys.  Been lurking for quite a while but posting for the first time. Lots of good info here.  Ive been loading this bullet in my standard 22" handi over 48 grns H4198 but no chrony so i dont really know what I'm getting.  Based on the chart i got the data from Im guessing around 2200fps. I recently ordered an ultra hunter and am looking to maximize the velocity with this round.  Barnes shows this bullet being driven 2314 fps over a charge of 50 grns of AA 1680 at levergun pressures.  How much faster can this be safely pushed in an ultra hunter.  The on-game performance with this bullet has has been impressive to say the least.  Anybody out there got any pet loads for this particular bullet?  What about the the 250gr TSX?

Welcome! I use their Ruger data in my Ultra Hunter, 2300-2400fps would be easy with the 300gr TSX-FB, the 500S&W Handi is built on an SB2 frame also, the 500 has a bigger case head and operates at around 53kpsi which is right in the neighborhood or Barnes data at 55kpsi.  ;)

Thanks, Tim.  I was hoping to be able to get 2400.  So all the Ruger data should be safe then?

Lol...growing up with gunsmith dad, i was conditioned to recoil pretty early on.  Shot just about everything that came through the shop...really broke me in on about 7.5 lb mod 700 in .416 rem mag when I was 15.  That thing was punishing!  But i figured out it hurt just as bad whether you flinched or not so you may as well hold her steady  ;)
