Stevens 200 accuracy
« on: February 14, 2010, 04:01:01 PM »
I spent a little time shooting today, and I had to post the group I got from my Stevens 200 in .243.  For a low dollar rifle, the accuracy never ceases to amaze me.  The group is a little off center because I had the stock off, and I never get the torque on the bedding screws exactly the same.  This group is 4 rounds at 100 yards.  The load is a 87 grain v-max over IMR 4064 powder.

They are good, I have one in 17 Remington that really works good.  Larry

I have 2 short action Stevens and a Long action Stevens. None are stock however. I just re-barreled one of the short actions to 22 BR and have not gotten out with it yet. The Long action was a 30-06 and has never been fired. I just re-barreled it to 7-08 and I have not gotten out whit it yet either. Can't wait. The two short actions were both 223's and they both shot superbly.

I re-barreled this one to 22 BR - It shoots great, but I got bored and wanted a .224 with longer range.

You guys are making me look bad.  I'm gonna have to start shooting out of a rest before I post any more target pics.

There is nothing to be ashamed of with your groups - I agree; the Stevens 200 can shoot well, very well some times.

Ho, hum. Yawn.  Yadda, Yadda, Yadda.  More pictures of awesome groups from the venerable Stevens 200.    :D  :D  :D  :D  ;D

All kidding aside, each of you are to be commended on such fine shooting.

Actually, Stevens' rifle have spoiled me.  Consistant or very near MOA groups are becoming such common place with them that I have a difficult time not expecting the same results from every rifle I shoot.  What makes it so interesting is that they shoot so well from the get-go.  Flimsy stocks or not, they shoot darn well.  ;)

Here's a better one.  This is from my 22-250.  My 250 is a Savage 12FV.  Not a Stevens, but close enough, right?  Believe it or not, these are the first three shots I fired with the rifle.

Mine will not just do three, it will do as many as you want to shoot.  This is shot 1 thru 10 or 11 out of a cold clean barrel.  Larry

I did have a vertical stringing problem that I finally sorted out however.  Larry

I just picked up one of the 200's in 223 this afternoon , got it home , cleaned it , mounted a cheap Barska scope and went to dial it in .

Impressed is an understatement , the loads I had were set up for my BB 223 Handi rifle so no load work was done at all , after I got it on paper @ 50 , out to 100 it went .

I was almost bored with it after 20 rounds  ;D it wants to shoot them all in the same hole  ??? now what fun is that .  ;)

I think I'll wait till its over 25 deg before I do any real load work though , I also want to take it over to Sharp Shooters and have a different stock put on , I'm not a big fan of Tupperwear .  :o

I traded for a Stevens 200 .223 and after I got the scope mounted and squared up I loaded some rounds that shot good in my Encore .223 barrel.  To the range I go and whadda know they shoot better from the Stevens.  Groups were running from .5"-.75", my Savage 110 in .243 is the same way and a friend has a Stevens 200 in 22/250 and one in .243, they are both very accurate also.

Mine's a stock .223, I've only stoned the burrs off of the trigger parts...

My handload of old surplus BL-C2 and Hornady 50 gr Vmax...

That's 5 shots @ 100 yds. Not bad for a 4 pound trigger I think...
