Late September went bowhunting for lopes in Wallace county (Ks)  Had one close encounter with a nice goat but he would not turn broadside--Had a hoot though out west--nice people and beautiful country.
Shot a (bow) 148 gross eight point whitetail at 35 yds.  Actually kinda had a plan come together on this hunt which is unusual.
Since then have been shooting coyotes with a Buddy of mine.  We both have Handi .204s and this is the second year we have used them on yotes. Really bowls them over.
Have done terrible ice fishing at Cheney!!

My mom is from Wallace county, and I have family there. Does Sharon Springs ring a bell.

We acually stay at a ranch just west of Sharon Springs.  Hunt there and close to Weskan.  Interesting thing about that part of the country is Weskan and Sharon get together to form a football team.  The field at Sharon Springs is actually not level and lower on the west than on the east end. (like on the side of a mild hill)  The natives say since they change goals at half time all is fair.  Ranchers show up for ball games in their flatbeads with the blue heelers in the back and hot dogs were $.50.   Very neat part of the country and the people are the salt of the earth.

Had a great season:

Best dove hunt of my life on public ground near Topeka on opening day:

http://skinnymoose.com/dailylimit/2009/09/01/kansas-dove-opener/

Several other good dove hunts in Kansas this year because my place in Missouri got planted too late:

Killed some ducks and doves on the duck opener:

Then some pheasants and quail:

Then it snowed:

Killing more ducks all the time:

And I was chasing various big bucks with a bow:

Found this one dead while scouting:

And then I connected with a rifle:

Killed some late season geese:

And Ducks:

And now we're down to the last few days of the goose season, and then it's time to look for sheds and get ready for turkey season:

I love living in the midwest...

kansasj, one of my cousins live in Weskan, and the rest in Sharon. It is DEFINITELY a different country out there. My grandpa and my Uncle owned that airport just west of Sharon on the north side of the road for years. Next time you are out that way ask there at the gas station ( busy bee ) if anyone knows the Fulton's.

Well missed the biggest buck I've ever seen on the hoof.Wasn't the gun.I guess buck fever.Went pheasant hunting a few times.Taking my gun for a walk would be a better term.Hardly any birds around here this year.Too much spring rains I guess.Didn't get to do much looking in the late season.Damn gout got me right after Christmas.Couldn't walk much for about three weeks.Oh well there's always next year.I hope.Slow

This summer I built a wooden 6'x8' blind with a tin roof that fits in my 6 1/2'x12' trailer. It has a propane bathroom heater on the wall with the tank outside in the back of the trailer. With the bench from our deck and a folding chair, it sits 3 people. Wifey hunts with me some. We watched my 8 point come from about 1/2mi to my corn pile at 80yds. Bang flop with the old Sav 99 in .308. Life is good.

SH, the gout is a b*tch. I used to get it once in a while and treated it with cherries, 1/2 can in the morning and 1/2 can at night. Always worked. The last time that I got it was in both feet. I was getting around with a walker. My Dr gave me a script for Allopurinol and I have taken it daily for three years with no more problems. It is only good for preventing gout, not for after the symptoms have hit. Good luck.

Most exciting thing I did hunting last year was going elk hunting in Colorado. Problem lies in that I didn't notice that the cow elk that I ended up shooting was actually a COW MOOSE. Needless to say, after a couple of calls to the game warden, a trip into town to see the DA, and having to ask my Dad to float me $700( I haven't asked him for money since I was 14, and I will be 26 this year) everything is better know. And I finally got Dad paid off last week.
