Its a forend mounting system originated by Bullberry for TC pistols and carbines that in effect does about the same thing as bedding and floating a barrel on a regular rifle.

All of the Contender barrels I've owned for a couple of decades (both custom and factory - pistol and carbine) have worn hanger bars from Bullberry, so I've always kept a supply of extras on hand.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

This is a Stratton Custom hanger-bar for an Encore factory 15inch barrel. It requires a modified factory forend or a custom and allows the barrel to float above the forend when properly executed.

Here's anther hanger-bar installed on my 5.7x28 full bull barrel by MGM

Also note that if you go that way on the Encores you have to order the correct bar for the contour. On the Contenders you order it for either the pistol length or the rifle length

I feel that anything that gets the forend away from the barrel helps there are several ways to go, you can piller bed using aluminum standoffs, or some people use washers glued to the inside barrel channel to get the forend out of contact with the barrel I just happen to like the hanger-bars. Others will swear by bedding the barrel in the forend channel. I believe that whatever you do, if you believe it helps then it helps.

For the record all of my barrels are fitted with hanger bars ;D

Picture of a forearm inletted for a H-Bar. As said there are more than one way to skin a cat, but I do like the H-Bar system.

Walt and I use magic shotgun shells and cut spacers that keep the forearm off the barrel.  Not nearly as elegant as hanger bars,  but lots cheaper and gets the job done.

Next thing you know Keith and Walt will be in the business of making and selling "hull" spacers for TC forends in designer colors.    :o

Sorry guys but I won't trade my hanger bars for any other system.... been using them too long and as you know old dogs can't learn new tricks.  ;)

Yep, I like my H-Bars. Tried a lot of different ways, and most worked good. I have some that don't have the H-Bar but sooner or later they will.

I was hoping you could be an expert endorser for Walt and my Shotgun Shell Spacer company.

One Hurricane, UT shop sells the originals hanger bars for $12 each - the other Hurricane, UT shop offers his version for $24 to $32 depending on config.

Each time I added to my supply of the originals I got a discount by ordering a couple of dozen of them at a time.

What method did you use to route out for the hanger bar ? I have a wood fore arm to use with a hanger bar, but unsure of a way to do it short of the chisel.

Easiest way to do one is in a Bridgeport mill with the appropriate end mill.

Yeah but not everybody has a Bridgeport in their shop.   A router could also be made to work, or even a rotary hand tool (Dremel/Fordham).   But there is no reason why you can't just mortise it in with a chisel either.
