Any downside to using a ML barrel on my shiny new G2?

I have had no problems with mine but I use T 7 and wipe the action down after a shooting session. I have not used Buckhorn 209 but it is said to be even cleaner.

I had one on my G2 frame, blued barrel and frame.  I didn't shoot it a lot, 20 or so shots for practice, before I sold it.  I didn't give it any extra cleaning and still have it and there is no corrosion after a year or so after using it.  The only reason I got rid of it was that an Omega became available for a very good price.

Not to be a wise guy... but... clean it.  When your done shooting for the day, clean it. If you are getting powder in the action you have a bigger problem then corosion. Try 777 loose powder with Rem Kleenbore or Win 777 primers.

I have a stainless G2 with a .50 cal muzzleloading barrel and I shoot 100 grains of blackhorn 209 powder and a 250 grain shockwave.  I haven't seen any issues with using the barrel as I always clean up the gun after use and FWIW I  use the blackhorn 209 I have had real good luck with it. The blackhorn 209 powder allows you to shoot multiple times without having to swab the barrel and no crud ring which to me is reason enough. I used to shoot 777 and I can tell you the blackhorn is a whole lot cleaner to shoot and when you clean the gun after shooting with the blackhorn you use hoppes or something similar. You should use the hottest primer available because of a very long breach plug. I actually was having some issues with hangfires on my gun and tracked it down to be the plug that holds the firing pins in the frame was loose and the primer was getting light hits. I have killed a couple deer with mine and have been real happy with the accuracy and the weight of the gun as far as carrying it around. If you are going to shoot hot loads in this gun (Light gun with hot loads kicks like a mule) I would suggest getting a quality scope with plenty of eye relief as I have been kissed more than once with the cheap scope I have on mine. When I get a little extra cash to spend in that direction I will purchase another nikon omega for it.

Clean it well, give it a couple of coats of a good paste wax and enjoy the fun

Last year I was reading a post on another forum from a very highly respected gunsmith, I had my Encore trigger job done by him also.   Anyway, he posted some pics of a guys Encore that was used as a ML and you wouldn't believe the corosion behind the firing pin bushing.  He wanted everyone that used their T/C's as a ML to be aware of this so they can clean this area out after the end of each season.  Just remember that you should atleast inspect it after a season of use.

The firing pin bushing needs to be cleaned often. use a ballhead allen to remove it with out removing hammer.
You can eliminate blowby by deepening breech plug to fit an o-ring under primer.

You will have a problem if you do not take the firing pins out of the bushing and clean every now and then.  How often?  Depends on how much blowby you get.  You always get some.  I got more with 777 primers but the crud ring was eliminated.  Blowby also got worse on mine the older the gun was and the more the plug was taken out and cleaned.  A new plug did not help.  I always cleaned the inside of the gun well and it still finally got to the point where the gun would not fire because of crud behind the bushing on the firing pins and springs.  It was nasty.  Took some serious cleaning but got it back to working.

Then the question becomes how often do you take the firing pins out and clean.  This issue was then another unknown about the gun firing unless you did it regular enough you knew the pins were clean.  It was the final straw for me.  As much as I liked that ML I switched to something different that did not need another step added to keep the gun functional.
