If manufacture conforms to the past the chamber will most likely be SAAMI spec, but the bore/groove will be a mystery until someone gives a definative answer here (and it could be different between the barrel providers for H&R).

H&R originally stated when the 7.62x39 barrels were first made that they would be .311", but later there was speculation that they were actually .308", they're likely somewhere in between since Alan slugged his at .3095", shoot .310"-.311" bullets in handloads in them and they should do well.

In my Springfield '03 30-06 and 30-40 Krag I use .311 -.312 cast bullets, the idea being to fill the fully expanded neck with a firm fitting bullet even if over groove dia. a bit. For Jacketed I'd try the .308s and see how they do.

The question arises....are you talking bore or groove dia. here? A typical convention more useful would be something like B/G= .308/.311. I tend to talk in the major dia. but assuming everyone else is can lead to trouble.
I also assumed that Dant posed this wondering which jacketed bullet dia he should plan on getting, but I always fall back to my cast bullet dia info just in case someone reading this may be interested.
That 'assume' thing is the ringer......its got me more than once.

Mine slugged .3102" and that was the bore, not the groove.  I shot well with Speer .311 150 gr bullets and even better with .311 sized 180gr cast lead Lyman 311407 "boolits".  Did really both with the groove diameter since the 311407 is a Loverin design that etches the outer grooves on chambering, like it should.
