Bought my first ever handgun
« on: February 01, 2010, 01:45:37 PM »
After turning 21 back in December I decided I needed to add a handgun of some type to my assortment of firearms.  Was torn between a 1911 style or a .357 med. frame revolver.  Well the revolver won.  I picked up a 1985 Ruger Security Six in .357 mag.  This one is stainless with aftermarket grips of some sort.  Seems to be a sweet little peice in like new condition.  I haven't shot it yet but will follow up with a report. Here's a pic.

You made a wise choice on the .357 caliber.  Much more versatile than a 1911 (although I love those too).

Wide array of factory ammo, easy to load for, fun and accurate to shoot.

The Security Six is a very good, very durable, accurate revolver.  Have fun!

take it from me ... the day will come when you will be sorely tempted to sell or trade that gun off. speaking from experience, DON'T DO IT! I sincerely wished I'd not sold off the satin nickel Taurus 66 my Dad bought me for my 21st birthday, along with the original Single Six .22lr/mag I got much earlier. And I'm willing to bet there's a bunch of gents here that miss their first handgun too.

... and excellent choice, by the way!

Thanks for the comments guys, I have a question though.  If i wanted to C.C. this gun, what would be the best way? I'm guessing a shoulder rig would be the only practical way since this thing is pretty big.  I'm about 5' 11" and 190lbs if that helps at all.

The only double action Ruger I like.  Good choice!

You could go an iwb rig if you'd rather not look like kojak.

Well I shot it for the first time today.  It was actually my first time shooting a revolver.  All I have to say is...Wow! This gun rocks! I was shooting 38s and it had way less recoil then I was expecting. Can't wait to try some .357s.  It was accurate too! Even with my poor eyesight and relative inexperience with handguns.

i  would  like to be there  when  you drop the hammer  on  a 357 mag

you  haven't realy  shot  it  yet

get back with  your 357  shooting  report  soon

[make  sure you have ear protection 357 is extremely loud]

Yeah the 38's made it seem like I was shooting a .22 or something like that.
