1st coyote kill with H&R .223!!
« on: January 31, 2010, 03:19:18 PM »
My friend Randy and I have been hunting coyotes for sometime now and have never been successful until today. It was a snow covered and very cold -2 morning in In. today. We arrived at our area at 8:00 am. Setup on a cornfiled that was surrouded by woods on three sides. We set the Foxpro caller on rodent distress. Five minutes later one coyote came down over the wooded hillside about 100 yards away. I shot with my H&R .223 and hit it in the left shoulder. It managed to hobble over to the woods edge to lay down. Then another one came out at 100 yards and Randy shot with his H&R .223 and missed. I shot at it running but missed also. Then a third one came out to investigate but decided to high-tail it out of there. We tracked the 1st one to the woods edge and found it laying in the brush. Randy ended up finishing it off. It was very exciting! We are hooked and can't wait to try it again. C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\My Pictures\AIRGUNNING\058.jpg

Congratulations!!  The first one is the toughest one.   ;)

Varmint hunting has become one of my favorite things to do.

I just got back about and hour ago, but my 223 handi has yet
to connect.

Darn, and I am sitting down here in Florida.  Not able to grab my .223 and head out to the riverbed.  Oh well, I'll be back in mid March.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I don't want to hear any whining about being in FLA. I am sitting here where I can shoot a coyote about any day of the week, trying desperately to figure out how to get TO FLA. They have rebuilt the pier @ Navarre, and I really want to get there about May 1st, before the prices all go up. Even so, on my budget, that will be a stretch, we have not gone in 3 years, since the hurricane tore everything up. I would  ;Dve to trade you some turkeys and coyotes for a Handi- pole and some pier fishing.

Nice lookin' 'yote. Congrats to you and your buddy. ;D
I seem to get outsmarted by 'yotes most of the time. I've shot them while deer hunting but I've never had one come in to a call. :-\ I must be doing something wrong. :-[
You guys got any tips for me??

we could use some tips too!!! John and I have been out 5-6 times and this was the first time we had any come in and then it was 3 of them at once. It seems the colder and more frozen then the better the response. I did some shooting last nite with new ammo ( Rem 50 gr JHP) and it is pretty good in my .223 stainless Handi 1-12 twist. I shot 8 of 10 shots inside of 1-1/2" at 50, 100 and 150 yards. So now if I miss I know it's not the gun.
