In an apparent change of corporate heart, Remington has modified its "recall on the cheap" for 597-.17HMRs. Previously the company only offered a $200 or $250 (depending on model) voucher good only toward the purchase of another Remington firearm to those who returned their 597-.17HMRs to the factory as part of the recall. Now, the company also offers the option of rebarrelling the rifles to .22WMR. To participate, call 1-800-243-9700, #3 when the options come on line. You MUST have your rifle's serial number when you call. The company will send a shipping label.
