H&R Barrel Program ??
« on: January 27, 2010, 09:33:41 PM »
i know there is a difference in an SB1 receiver and SB2 receiver. on the h&r website, all the barrels are listed under the "Handi Rifle/Pardner Guns" brand.

now here is my question. do the handi barrels work on the topper shotgun barrels. the reason i ask is my friend bought his son a topper youth compact 20ga and the salesman told him that he could send the receiver, and forearm in and get any of the rifle barrels.

ok...i could understand the shotgun and pistol caliber barrels working on that frame, but the rifle caliber barrels??   then again i know there are some dumb salesmen in the world. the only other reason i can think that maybe that nickel plated frame has the specs of an SB2. hopefully someone can shed some light on the subject for me..

Joe, the way I understand it now, the only rifle barrels they'll put on a shotgun (SB1 frame) are the .357 and .44.  They used to fit the Topper with .30-30, .357 Max. and others.  Some here have used them on .45s and have rebored/rechambered barrels in other low pressure, non-factory calibers.  I only have one SB1 on a rifle now, and that's a .357.  The frame is going to become a 12 ga. and the barrel will be another maximum residing on a SB2 frame.

I hate it when I go into a store to buy something and ask questions and it immediately becomes clear I know more about the product than the person trying to sell it.  The worst part of that is that they're ignorant and try to act knowlegeable and come up with some possibly deadly statements.

Pete has it right. H&R is pretty particular about what frames they will hook up a high pressure barrel on. It has to be a SB2 frame and it needs to be of recent manufacture. Look in the FAQ for frame serial numbers they will hook up a new barrel. I have 2 frames with 6 rifle barrels. Both are SB2 manufactured after 2003. Again, look in the FAQ about what years they will hook up a high pressure barrel.

I also hate it when I have questions about a thing I am interested in buying and the sales person does not know as much as I do about the subject. I do a lot of shopping at the local Walmarts - but only if I know exactly what I want with out asking questions. I have found the people working there in general do not have a clue about the subject you ask. If I want electronics, and I have questions, I will not go to a Walmart, I go to specialty electronic stores where they know what they are talking about for instance. I have bought guns at Walmart, but I know exactly what I want before hand. I have also bought guns at a local gun shop, not because of price, because they know what they are talking about. Information is valuable and some times you have to pay for it.
