How long does it take?
« on: January 27, 2010, 06:48:26 AM »
Just sent my receiver to H&R 1871 this morning to be fitted with a 12 gauge rifled barrel ( to use as a stub for my 375 JDJ ).  ;D  Already chomping at the bit.  About what is the usual turn around time?

See the Ilion satisfaction poll in the FAQs, the last one took less than a month, IIRC. That would be for an in stock barrel.

Curious why you went with 12g and rifled for a stub?  Seems like .410 smooth would give you more meet at the chamber end and be cheaper?

The 12 gauge rifled barrel has the largest OD therefore should give a more solid barrel to frame fit.

But the .410 chamber swell is the same size as the 12ga where it fits the frame.

I will turn the barrel shank OD to the same as the 12 gauge chamber ID -.0001 (one thousandths of an inch). So no having to deep bore the 12 gauge chamber.  Its good like it is. Supposedly the OD (over the chamber) of the rifled 12 ga barrel is a bit larger than the regular 12 ga barrel.  I'll post progress photos when i get the gun back & start the machine work.

Not on any 12ga barrel that will fit the SB2 Buffalo Classic frame, the only barrels that have larger chamber swells are the 10ga shotgun and 12ga Ultra Slug Hunter barrels which only fit on the SB2 Shotgun frame, any barrel that will fit an SB1 shotgun or SB2 rifle frame will be 1.1XX" at the chamber swell, the 10ga based barrels are 1.2XX" at the chamber swell and will only fit the SB2 shotgun frame which isn't the same as an SB2 rifle frame.

You'll have to call and change the order if you ordered the 12ga USH barrel, they won't/can't fit it to your frame, you can change the order to another option if it's more suitable to your needs like the .410 or 20ga, which ever costs less that will work for ya.  ;)
