35 whelen back in production

A tech at H&R told me today that the 35 Whelen is back in production.  I suggested that they add the 375 Winchester to the list as well.

I have one, took my doe with it this year.........I'd love to see the 338 Federal in  a Handi. Have a TC Encore and Ruger Hawkeye in 338, really enjoy the round, hits hard,  recoils mildly..........

I am trying not to sound too dumb, BUT do you have to load the whelen ammo
or where do you buy it, never see it in shops, see plenty of 35 rem.

I expect that ammo production runs are seasonal, and probably targeted regionally. I have not seen new guns for it in a while, though there is a like new 700CDL at my local fun shop.

It seems to me the 35 Whelen is more popular in Canada, Alaska, and the north than in the deep south.  I found some Federal Bear Claw loads at a local gun store.  They also had Remington.  Depends on where you live and the size of the store.

I just got a 700CDL New in Box for $500 out the door.  It had been sitting for over a year and a half and they took my offer.  They had .35whelen ammo from remington but it was $43.00 a box so I said no thanks I'll roll my own.

If I'm not mistaken, the 38-55 Buffalo Classic can very easily become a 375 Winchester.

Only if you shoot 375win equivalent 38-55 handloads, the bore at .379" or bigger is too big for .375" bullets.

The 35 Whelen Handi has been scheduled for production again this year, both in wood and synthetic stock versions with a 22" standard barrel.

H&R produced 200 more Whelens a couple months ago for sale at a couple dealers in Mississippi, they sold all of them in a short time, the 22" Whelen will be available in 2010 in both wood and syn stock.

Good since my two got commendeered by my Dad and my wife I need to replace them.  I really would like the synthetic version.  Then I will trade barrels with Dad and get my longer barrel with ejectors back.  Dad does not like the ejector so he will trade it back to me, no problem.

Most sporting goods stores carry the ammo, have never had a problem finding it.  Remington Core Lockt ammo works for me, drops Moose in their tracks.  Shot a Grizzly about 10 years ago with a .35 Whelen, lucky spine shot.  Dropped the bear at 15 yards, like a load of bricks.

The .35 Whelen is capable of taking anything in North America, including the Big Bears of Alaska, without the recoil of the big magnums.

This is great!! I already have a whelen & love it. I would buy or trade for a 375 though, it is the only straightwall case that I currently don't have.

The only way to get a 375Win H&R is to have a smaller chambered barrel rebored and rechambered or have a stub done, either will cost ~$300 plus the donor parts cost, Wayne does all of my work.
