i know this topic has been beatin to death but i was wonderin if the barrel could provide 3 in groups at 50-100 yards open sited if the barrel could be able to cool down

Of course, but it's more dependant on your eye sight than the barrel. :D

I had my SL wearing a 2-7X scope out for the first time to the range on Saturday and just with trying a few different handloads at 50 yards I got one 5/16" group. Not great, but for a first range trip I think I'm on the right track. As was said using open sights could do the same if your eyes and skills are up to it. My eyes aren't young enough for open sights any longer, but if I was to go that route I think an aperture sight like the Williams Fool Proof would be ideal. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=165204
