OK, here's a preview...
« on: January 21, 2010, 07:14:27 PM »
... of what I hope to build. I bought the .45 Colt (new) from Gunbroker yesterday; it will ship in a day or two. Price was $280 + ship + xfer fee, which will be $324 by the time it's all done. Too much, I know, compared to the ~$250 you guys seem to be getting, but I have been searching (shops and internet) whenever I'm home from travel, and I just could not get there (or click) fast enough to close the deal. Gallery of Guns had a couple of dealers who would part (pre-tax & fee) for about $250, but with a 75mi (or more) drive. Months of fiddling around was enough, so here I am.

I want to get a .357 barrel as well, but the first thing will be to get the barrel cut/crowned @ 16.2", trigger job, and new sights (I already have the Williams FP sight and a ramp --- 'smith and I will choose the right post/bead). I plan to take an inch off the stock length. It will eventually get a nice barrel band for sling swivel, as well as someday a fiddleback stock/forend, but that's down the road. The .357 will be identical.

Trimming stock and barrel makes it almost 5 inches shorter, and with the miracle of computers the proportions come out like this:

Hope you all like the idea of it as much as I do -- I think it will be cool. I'll share REAL pics as we go.

Should work. You might concider a recoil pad if thinking about rechambering to 454 or 460. The sight that came on my gun work pretty good but still thinking about a peep

Maybe add a longer buffalo classic forearm (R03270)?

I like it, similar to the old Win. '85 Trapper model. Maybe Computer up the buttplate as a flatish Neidner style (classy) to see what you think since you are going to shorten it anyway.
