LITTLE LITTLE TINY 243
« on: January 21, 2010, 04:52:24 AM »
I was at Cabelas last night and saw what  i guess was a youth H&R 243
this thing looked like a toy, i had never seen one
Cabelas has several Baikial (spelling) had a 243 that was really a nice looking
gun, had the barrel that looks like it has been twisted, beautiful wood.
they have a very narrow scope ramp.

Those Baikals have come a long way, but I guess Rem. has discontinued them. If you (and I do) like a more 'european' style they have some promise. The ones Ive seen (check online for Spartan) are cheap for what they appear to offer. I have not heard from anyone on how they shoot, though.

here my SPR-18 in 243 cal. they seem to like hot loads this load in today reloading books is hot but not in the older loading handbooks.

I can say this barrel was close to becoming a tomato stick in the wifes garden:I had lots of light hits turn out the FL Resizing die set the shoulder back to far.
I also did a trigger job which breaks at 2 1/2lbs and cut the stock down to 13 1/2" seem to be a shooter now

Based on that 75yd. group I will look at the next .308 version I run across a little closer.
Is that a scoped group or with the open sights?

I had a Baikal SxS in 45-70 in my hands before CHRISTmas. It gave me the shivers. Not sure if it was the price tag or the fact i wanted it so bad. Good thing the wife was with me but the seed was sewn i think.............price.......$1250.00 can.

That IS a bit more than the single shots! But not bad for a dbl Rifle. THe sgls I see on the 'net at $220ish and up while at a gun show last month was a .308 at $295 (kinda high) but it looked good.
Anywhere in between should be a good buy , IF they shoot well.

Here's a picture of my SPR18 in .308.

The guns shoots sub-moa all day with Federal 308M 150gr. soft points. Kicks like a beast off the bench.  :o

I had to do some trigger work because it was way too heavy of a pull.

It's a neat gun, but I like my Handi's better overall from a design standpoint.

The guts on the SPR18 are not very good design IMHO.
