T/C New Englander Lock

There is a piece of metal on the T/C New Englander rifle tang that comes down over the top of the lock. Can you take the lock out of the stock without removing the tang?

That tab is not part of the tang. It's part of the breech plug. You have to remove the barrel (not the tang) before you can remove the lock. There's no need to remove the tang.

The New Englander is different from the Renegade or Hawken. Not only is there a piece of metal on the breech plug that hangs down over the lock, there is also one on the tang that hangs down over the lock.

DANG! You're right
Forestclimber
. How could I have forgotten that? Yes, you do have to remove the tang. That just reminds me that I haven't shot my New Englander in quite a while.

Semisane, Well I had to laugh at myself too....cause I flunked the same test you did
. Just went and looked at mine. Amazing how those gremlins can sneak in and change things when you're not lookin'
. Oh well, by tomorrow I'll have forgotten again anyway.

Yep, just one more of T/C's really stupid ideas. I fixed mine in a few minutes with hacksaw and file. I like to remove and clean the lock every time I fire my ML guns. Having to remove the tang screws just to get to the lock is really dumb.
