Homemade Mag Bag for M16/AR15 magazines (9-30 round mags)
« on: November 01, 2003, 06:38:04 AM »
I was going through the garage and came across a mag bag I made for my AR15 years ago. That was back in the days I was into the black rifle craze. I sold the last of my AR's right before Y2K. I was a dealer years ago and single so I had plenty of money to spend on exotic toys.

Back to the mag bag. This style mag bag is made by Shooting Systems http://www.shootingsystems.com/cgi-bin/miva?Merchant2/merchant.mv+Screen=PROD&Store_Code=SS&Product_Code=MB&Category_Code=MB

Basically you get 2-3 or more regular military issue M16 30 round magazine pouches(new or used). Remove the grenade pouches. Find some heavy duty OD canvas like a duffle bag. Lay the 3 magazine pouches side by side on the canvas and trace around the pouches. Leave some excess material on the canvas. Cut out the canvas and fold the excess material under and sew together. You can sew/rivot the strap from the duffle bag on the canvas or use some sort of "D" rings to attach it. Sew the 3 M16 pouches to the canvas. There you have it. A magazine pouch that carries 9 30 round magazines you can strap over your shoulder or have in your vehicle. You can make this as cheap as you want. All these items can be bought at a surplus store, gunshow, yard sale or stuff you may already have laying around.

I bought some M16 pouches at the cash sales for 1 dollar a piece. I also picked up a military tool pouch for about the same price.  I used an old M1 Carbine sling I never used for the strap. It cost under 10 dollars to make. It's not pretty as the one made by http://www.shootingsystems.com/ but it is very functional.

I posted a "how to make your own mag bag" on the old AR15.com a few years back.
