Gave my Handi a facelift
« on: January 17, 2010, 07:54:50 AM »
I felt my .204 deserved more than it's pallet stock.  Purchased a rough from Gunstocks Inc. and 30 days later calling it done.   Took about a weeks wages in sandpaper and 15 coats of BC tru-oil.  Added 4 oz of unwanted weight but oh well !

NICE WORK!!!!!

I LOVE pretty wood.....
Now just get some lower mounts for the scope, your accuracy will improve as well as the kink in your neck disappear.  ;D

Beautiful wood and great work making it so. You made your rifle proud with that stock.

great looking job and you ended up with a winner. How does it fit you and your face (and neck) the way it is? If it fits you as it is you should be good to go....<><....:)

I think I will take CW's advice and shorten my scope mounts!  The thumb relief was not present on the blank and I started it with a rat tail file and finished with various dowels and 320grit.

They appear to be Weaver HIGH rings. You appear to have about a half inch clearance at the hammer.

Like Andy mentioned, how does the rifle fit you? If you close your eyes, and shoulder the gun, then open your eyes, what do you see? I'm suspecting you will see the hammer and the bottom of the ocular on the scope.

I'm certain that medium Weavers will work, likely even lo's. I prefer steel rings to the allow weavers. Burris ZEE rings are a favorite here, I prefer the Leupold PRW or WARNE maxis rings. I would think either will work in lo height.

Yes your hammer spur will still work and likely be even more necessary.

I've got the same scope on my 223 Ultra mounted in low Millett Angle-loc windage adjustable rings.  They're nice rings, the rifle shoots great.
