This one is more about my squirrel dog Huff than me.
About 4 years ago when I still ran trucks I stopped by the house one Friday evening and dropped my wife off, and went on to Ft. Worth to pick up a load for Saturday. When I had stopped I noticed ole Huff under the only peach tree in the yard, and he was actin like he had a squirrel treed. Since it was in the middle of our half acre, and it was a peach tree I didn't believe him and went on to Ft. Worth.
At about 4 AM Saturday morning I picked up my wife and she said Huff had been at the peach tree barkin all night, and wouldn't quit. We went to Missouri, swapped loads and got home about 8PM Saturday night, and Huff was still under the peach tree trying to climb it. We were tired and went to bed. He barked all night under that peach tree.
The next morning when we went to the car to go to church Huff was still under the tree, and looked wore out. My wife told me to go check the tree before we went to church. I did but didn't see anything for the leaves (it was summer time).
When I got to church my neighbor and deer huntin buddy told me Huff had been under that peach tree since Thursday afternoon, raising hell, and would leave the tree.
Well after church we went and ate, and when we drove up my wife insisted I check that peach tree again. When I got there ole Huff was wore out, he had clawed the bark of the slanted side of the trunk, and there was hardly any Bermuda grass left under the tree. I went to the shop, and got a rake and began to shake that tree. In a couple minutes a squirrel bailed and made it thru the chain link fence losing his tail to Huff.
By this time it was about 1:30PM Sunday afternoon. Huff had, kept that squirrel in that peach tree since Thursday afternoon. After he lost the squirrel he went and laid in his water bucket for about 20 minutes and laid around for the next two or three days. I figure that squirrel went and got himself a drink first thing too.
Huff is a registered Jack Russell, and quit is not in his dictionary.
