Bring back the K32
« on: January 13, 2010, 12:38:13 AM »
S&W has done well with Vintage style revolvers. Why not the K32. I have always wanted one to shoot and they have been in the 4 figure price range since I have been old enough to buy one ( a long time now ). I would not mind if it was chambered in 32 H&R just no underlug on the barrel, a 4" option would make a neat field gun. Shotgunner

Hello
I would Love to see the K-32 come back, But I don't think it will happen. In it's run from 1947-1974 they only produced 3630 of them total. I have an Early Post-War Five screw shown with the hard to Locate Thin Barrel rib. I also have the 16-4 K-32 Magnum shown that was just converted to the New Federal .327 magnum By Hamilton Bowen and took a Wild Cat with it this Deer season...Hammerdown

I looked for an "affordable" K-32 for many years. They never made many of them and the price kept ahead of my wallet.

When they came out with the full underlugged 16-4 I jumped on a 6" barrel. I shoot mine, a LOT and it is one of the most satisfying revolvers I have owned. I flat love it.

Right after I got it, Federal (the only supplier) stopped selling components to their customers. I ended up with a couple of thousnd .32 S&W Long cases and they worked so well that I quit worrying about .32 H&R Mag cases. A couple of years later, Starline started making them. I pre-ordered a couple of thousand of them. Since I mostly shoot target loads, I have pretty much stayed with the .32 S&W Long cases.

Try to buy a 16-4 today, you could almost buy a K32. I load 32 H&R for a little Ruger Bisley, as well as 32 long. Lots of fun in a Regulation Police. I would buy a 16-5, especially if it didn't have an underlug barrel. Shotgunner

I sure like my little j frame smith in 32mag.
Sweet little sidearm that see's quite a few days in the field.
Of course I made the mistake of letting my wife shoot it once.
Now she thinks it's hers...... :D

I'd love to see them come out with another one.

I'LL tell you what boys. For the prices K32's are bringing you can do what I did some years ago after looking to buy a K32 for 35 years. I had Hamilton Bowen build me one from a brand new M19 gun, a new-in-the-white-K32 target barrel I found for sale, and a brand new K22 cylinder for Hamilton to rechamber to 32S&W LONG
You can do the same with just about any ol' used K frame center fire target sighted pistol and for a barrel you find a K22 barrel for re-boring and re-rifling to 32 caliber. This is NOT as tough as it sounds, guys !!!
And no brag intended but I'll bet my Bowen K32 will outshoot 999 out of 1000 K32's ever made. It shoots any kind of 32S&W LONG ammo into little itty bitty groups and all my handloads will cut one hole groups at velocities from 800 to 1150fps. THIS IS AN AMAZING 32 SIXGUN BECAUSE HAMILTON BOWEN KNOWS WHAT THE HELL HE IS DOING, NO FOOLING !!! HE IS WORTH HIS HIRE PERIOD !!!
Matter of fact my next one will be a K32 with a new-in-the-white tapered S&W 32 caliber barrel with one cylinder in 32H&R MAG, one in 32-20, and the last one, a stainless K22 cylinder in 32ACP. I can NOT decide whether To do another cylinder in 327MAG or not.
