Rear Sight for 45-70 Handi
« on: January 11, 2010, 06:33:25 AM »
I really want a different rear sight than the one that came on my 45-70. I don't want to pay as much for the sight as for the gun. I would like a slide adjustable semi-buckhorn, or something similar. Nice old-fashioned sight like everything used to have from BB guns on up. One that could mount where the factory sight did or, better yet where the scope would go. Any ideas?

I have seen one of these on a few rifles and a friend has one on a Henry rifle. they are adjustable for both windage and elevation and best of all under $35. DR

Check with any of the suppliers to the muzzle loaders. They will have reasonably priced traditional sights as compared to the BP cartridge rifle stuff. A good one is Track of the Wolf. Anything for a 'Hawkin' would be a good choice, I think. Most need a dovetail but a few have a base you could modify easily for a 2 screw mount.

I assume you're not talking about a ladder-type sight since you mention the type that used to come on BB guns.  I got this Marbles #95 from Brownell's for my Puma that I like real well.  It's not bad for $27.00.

Here is a good peep from Brownels. I have one on my Ruger #3 in 45/70 and it works great. I'm waiting on one for my H&R 45colt CC now
