Love that CANDY SHOP!
« on: January 10, 2010, 03:30:56 PM »
Deer season is over, nothing but small game left which helps with the DTs but still bored!    :( :'(
My hunting buddy called and said let's go for a ride.
Sure!
Where to?
Let's go to the CANDY SHOP.   :) ;D
Off we went.
45 min later there we were again amongst old friends.  ;)
Looked in the used barrel & scope show case, nothing new.
Looked on the used gun shelf and there stood an as new BC, serial HX for $289.00 out the door.   :o
I told the owner to give me the papers!
My buddy said "just what you need-another 45-70".
I told him why not, for that price!
Then on the way over to another shop we got to talking about what I was going to do with this one.
I told him after I see how it shoots with factory ammo I may save up my extra money for a while and send it off to Wayne York and let him turn it into a 50-140 with maybe a 28" barrel.  ::)
He wants me to keep it at 50-70.
I know it would be a lot cheaper BUT! ?  ;) ::)

Also a couple of days ago another friend I ran into asked if I could help him out.
I said sure, if I can.
He has been out of work for quite a while now and told me he needed some money.
He showed me an older NEF SB1 12ga that has a few scratches on the barrel and the finish on the stock is worn but is in fine mechanical shape.
He asked if I could give him $65.00 for it?
I told him I really didn't need it but I would loan him the money.
Nope, NO WAY!
Either I buy the gun or thanks for the offer.
I took it and told him that if I still had it, he could have it back whenever he got back on his feet if he wanted it.
He agreed.
The bad part is when I got it home my 20ga slug barrel and one of my extra 22 Hornet barrels fit it just fine.
If he ever wants it back I may have to give him my other 12ga in place of it.
Oh well, I feel good anyway!!!    :)
All in all a nice week!   :) ;)

amen to that - i just wandered out of dick's sporting goods with their special edition camo stock 22" bull barrel handi .308 with a cheap pre mounted scope - and that would be the 3rd gun I bought in the last two months (one didnt count because it was a pink crickett .22 for my 9 year old's CHRISTmas present!)

Sure you say I have to stay out of the candy store and then you dangle great deals around for the rest of us to drool over. Okay then I'll stay out of the candy store. They ain't open 'til morning anyway. Sure wish I'd stumble onto a deal on another BC! That special edition .308 from Dicks sounds real nice too!

Well Frank, you inspired me.  My friend and neighbor, Charlie, has to go to Rudyard this morning to pick up some hams he had smoked.  Tony's Gun Shop in Pickford is only a hop skip and a jump away from there, so were going there first.  Tony's got 3500 new and used guns to look at :D ;D :D ;D  He's got all kinds of ammo and goodies too.

I'll let you guys know how we make out.

Tony's about 90 and has been trading guns all his life.  The place is like a museum.  The other reason he has so many is he doesn't give anything away.  You generally pay for what you get there.

Best candy store ever was Abercrombie & Fitch. 5 floor gun store on 45th street in Manhattan. Get outfitted for your safari. Boy, times have changed.
