Stock came loose

Whilst handleing my handi, I noticed the stock was a bit loose. Not a big deal, I just stuck a socket and extention in there and tighted it, but I was a bit surprised it happend.
Is this something I need to keep an eye on?
Is this atypical or just another random gremlin/murphy type thing that always happens to me specifically?
 It's not a curse really, it's just a fact of MY life. I've become quit use to it actually, it seems my lifes purpose is to demontrate for others what can go wrong. (knock on wood)

p.s. How much "torque" needs to be applied here,,spark plug tight? More? Get it as tight as I can, then give it a 1/4 turn?

Back in the old days, the gun manufacturers actually spent the  extra 0.02 for a washer.

It happens sometimes with temperature changes. Did you have it out in the cold?  I have noticed it with newly installed stocks, but usually only once.

IF there is a problem with the stock, like a crack it will continue. But likely that is the last time you will see it.

I tighten fairly tite, not as tite as I can, but tite...  maybe "choke up" a bit on the ratchet and have at it....

I noticed the torque spec in the FAQs was pretty high, higher than I like. I temper my own tastes with the fact that Ruger (is it OK to say that here?) specs the No.1 buttstock at 10-15 ft.lb. I use that on my thru bolt rifles with satisfaction.
Do take care that as you snug it up to wiggle the wrist to 'find center', snug a bit more, etc. to ensure it is properly seating in the action.
I expect that wasnt done as shipped and the recoil impulses made it obvious to you.

If you're heating this time of the year, humidity is a factor and wood shrinks when it is dry.  If the rifle is in a low humidity area, the stock could have shrunk a bit.  Add a washer and check it once in a while.  It probably couldn't hurt to feed it some tung or linseed oils.  (That's one of the reasons why I hate varnished stocks.  Things dry out and it is hard to get moisture back in).

Thank you, we have all that here in Minn,,Dry winters? you bet-cha',,Cold and temp swings? Oh ya. I've been out to the range in the cold alright, we here upnorth fellers have learned to leave'm in the case for awhile so it warms gradual, but that don't mean it doesn't change.

 I'm guessing it was a combo of both, there is/was a washer in there. TY for the tip gcrank, I found the torque at 25-30 and that's about what I giv'er.
 I'll give it a good going over with the liquid polish I use, and thanks for the reminder, I should get all of'm out and give the wood a little tlc. That'll keep me busy a couple a nights. I think I'll get a long artists type brush I have and reach down in that deep stock bolt hole and let that soak some up, it looks untreated.

IIRC, 25-30 ft/lbs is the stock bolt torque specified by H&R gunsmiths are Gardner, it also just happens to be the torque spec for gasketed spark plugs too which I've tightened a time or too, so it's a natural feel!!

Make life easy for the 'deep hole' work. Cork the small hole and pour some linseed oil in the other. Slosh it around, let stand, and slosh some more. I like to start with a good, warm stock sitting by the furnace heat duct. When you tire of this, pour the remainder back in the bottle, wipe out with a paper towel and let 'dry' a bit before reassembly.
