What shotgun/Rifle combinations do you like?

I have been thinking about the preferred shotgun rifle combination.  What do you like and what do you use it for?

Tikka M07 12g/222 for general fox whistling (called "predator calling" in the US I believe), and as a handy gp gun that can safely be carried in the vehicle all day loaded & uncocked

... also - it's accurate and it seems to be robust and feels unbreakable

My Savage 30-30 over 20 gauge works great for deer/bear/couger and grouse, exactly what I need.  Larry

I used to have a savage 30/30 over 20gague but thought it a bit heavy. I think it weighed more than my new drilling, but for a combo gun I liked the Brno I was looking at while out on vacation. It was lite and in 12gague over 7x57R. I bought the drilling instead but did like the Brno.

Ah, my favorite subject.  I love both my Tikka (12/.222) and my Simson Suhl Cape gun in 16ga X 25-35.  I want to add a J P Sauer O/U 30-06 X 12ga one of these days.  Or any super light O/U German Cape gun.

I am leaning toward the Valmet 412 12/.243 with double triggers as the all around combo for here in Texas.

I have an Inman Merffert 16ga./8x57R, 27" barrels, claw mts. 4x Pecar scope,( about 6.5 lbs. with scope and 6 lbs without) flip up iron rear sight, cocking indicators,set trigger for rifle barrel, leather case with shoulder strap for scope when not in use. Light engraving.  Very accurate with cast or jacketed bullets.  It's a honey, great to carry in your hand.  It's the all around gun.  Had it since sometime in the 1970s

  I'd take a drilling over a combo every time!  As it's just a lot more useful for "all around" hunting.

  But, if it "has" to be a combo gun, then it would all depend on what gun it was in, and where i lived.

  I like light handy guns, so if it was a gift to me from Doug,     to use where i now live, then i'd want a Krieghoff combo gun, it 12ga., 7x65R, with choke tubes and a rimfire insert bbl. for the shot tube.   

  Krieghoff makes some very accurate, light combo guns that would be a joy to own and use.

I have a Baikal 30-06/12 Ga. and a Savage 22 mag/20 Ga.  Have had a Baikal 223/12 Ga.  I like the Baikal 30-06/12 Ga the most. I reloaded some 110 grain Vmax's and consistently got clover leafs off a bench rest at 100 yards.  The 12 Ga. w/#4 buckshot also agrees with the rifle POA at 50 yards.  Great gun, a little heavy with a Nikon 3 to 9 scope on it but my favorite. 

The other Baikal, the 223/12 Ga has lousy accuracy with 55 grain factory bullets at 100 yards.  Could possibly been a Friday's gun.  So I sold it.

The Savage 22 Mag/20 Ga is a nice little gun.  Light weight, easy to carry and shoot.
Took it squirrel hunting a couple of weeks ago and see I need to make a trip to the range.  Will have to jam something in between the barrels in order to get the rifle and shotgun to register at the same POA at close range (Squirrels). Would love to have a drilling but don't have that kind of money.

I have Savage 24's as follows:

.22/.410
.22/20 ga. (2 identical guns)
.22 mag./20 ga.
.223/20 ga.
.30-30/20 ga.

The 24 V's (.223/20 ga. and .30-30/20 ga.) are a bit heavy, with the .223 being heavier, but are the most versitile, but I like the .30-30/20 ga. best since I can use light cast bullet loads all the way up to full power .30-30's.  I am using this for coyote hunting lately (no luck yet).

The .22 mag./20 is very accurate and has a full-choke barrel which I have used for coyote hunting last spring since that was the only 24 I had.

The .22/.410 is the most accurate at 50 yd., with multiple under-1/2" groups.

  I always love it when guys say they can't afford a drilling , yet have 3, 4, or 5 decent guns. (or many more)  I bought this drilling about 1983 for $350.00,



  Yes i've added to it since then, but it was a complete drilling when i bought it, and i shot a big bull mose with it shortly after getting it.  These days i see drillings from $500.00 for one that needs work, to about $1200.00 on up for a decent usable one.

I really liked the Baikal 12/30-06 the rifled slug choke made the slugs accurate to 75 yards and the 30-06 was regulated for 100 yards.  The Spartan 12/.223 was terrible.  the groups from the rifle where 5 inches right and 5 high at 50 yards compared to the shotgun which was zeroed for 100 yards.  So I sold both for the Valmets.  I have not looked back.
