« on: January 05, 2010, 10:55:24 AM »
What would the value be on a Ruger #1 458 WIN MAG in excellent condition be? Also are all #1's chambered in 458 WIN MAG the Tropical model?   Thanks, Mike

[are all #1's chambered in 458 WIN MAG the Tropical model?]  - Yep.

[What would the value be on a Ruger #1 458 WIN MAG in excellent condition be? ]

In my experience, the "askin's" always high, but the "selling" (when they finally sell) ends up being a LOT lower - as not all that many buyers actually end up in hunting country, where a .458 would be of good use.

Curiously, most I have seen F/S used were "only shot once (or twice)", and came with a box of ammo containing 18 or 19 rounds.

The caliber really limits the size of the group of buyers. I would love to have one but know I would shoot it a few times then sentence it to a line in the back corner of my safe. Of course that does not always stop me!
I would say $750 -800 unless there is wear or damage

thats funny, wouldnt yu kinda think a 458 mite kik a bit before yu purchased it?the caliber does limit the potential market.but i dont think yu will get one for less than 700$

I live in Alaska so even though it's still a bit more gun than is needed here I could use it for hunting costal Grizzlies or Bison, if I happen to draw a tag. Who knows, it might even be fun to shoot once in a while despite the recoil. Plus the guy only wanted $500 for it so either way I can't go wrong.

I just bought a RUGER #1-s in 45/70 from a local pawn shop.

It has been sitting there awhile, so hoped to get it for less.

However, paid $600 out the door including sales tax and a 3x9 Pentax gameseeker scope.

I figure the rifle came in at about 520 or a bit less as the scope is worth 50 bucks +/- and the tax would be about 40 dollars or so.

The rifle is very clean and shows very little use, so figure I got a very good deal.

Keep em coming!

600 is about average for a #1 used around here.
