7 rounds, going back. She's Back!
« on: January 03, 2010, 01:18:29 PM »
Picked up a new 1895 GS on the 30th of Dec, took it out to test her today and on the third round, the lifter didn't lift.  Got the round out thru the port and jiggled the lever and things worked ok.  Round 7 the cartridge just barely got out of the tube and everything locked up again.  Took the rifle back to the place I bought it and Jim had to take the whole thing apart to get the cartridge out.  Said it looked like the lifter was bent over and he would send it back.  Also said the last Guide Gun they sold had to go back, same reason, jamming cartridges.  We'll see how long it takes Marlin to repair/ replace product.  This is the only one of 8 Marlins I have that has had problems.  DP

that saddle ring is kinda neat, did you buy that as a kit to replace the safety?

Got a call from the best Candy Store in town this morning saying there was an 1895GS settin' there with my name on it and did I want to come get it.  The store had called last Friday to check on it and was told it was being test fired and didn't "feel" quite right and was going back to be torn down again.  Was really suprised to get her back today.  Opened the box and  :o, NEW WOOD :-* :-*.  Levered her a few times and everything seems to be working much smoother now.  Jim, ( my candy man) said," did ya try the trigger yet?"  Safety on, squeeze and man, one of the best factory triggers I have ever had on any lever. 8)  Seems when Jim talked to the Marlin repairman, he mentioned how disappointed I was and how I had bought several Marlins this year and still talkin' about a couple more but the trigger was kinda gritty on that one.  I think Marlin, (and Jim) went above and beyond to fix me up.  Now, If the weather will just co-operate a bit and let me go test her out this Sunday, life will be good. ;)  DP

did you find out what was causing the problem? did it have something to do with the wood? i don't know how it could, just wondering.

the guy i work with also got his back recently, he said they replaced the extractor, it was hanging up on the new round trying to come up into the chamber, i guess, from what he told me.

Finally got to take her out and give her a run today.  Had a box of Remmington 300 gr for her and 3 other new guns to try.  Headed out to the range but it was full when I drove by, had wanted to check on the cabin anyway so drove another 2 hours to get there.  Marlin fixed her good, she ran smooth and the trigger is great!  Gonna have to put some better sights on her but she did good.  Will work on the loading gate spring, it's not bad but will lighten it up some.  Very pleased with the work Marlin did for me.  DP
