Ling Cod
« on: December 31, 2009, 07:04:30 PM »
I'd really like to catch a Ling Cod. I've heard of them, and many people it seems don't like their ugly mugs, much less eat them. but I've heard they're very tasty. What kind of bait works best in winter? I heard there's a winter festival somewhere in Montana, called the Dingaling, that has an ice fishing derby to catch the biggest Ling.

I think ling cod is a saltwater fish.
You might be thinking of the Eelpout (burbot) Festival in Minn.

The International Eelpout Festival in Walker, MN might be what you're thinking of.

Good eating, the tale is referred to as "Poor Man's Lobster." Of course, lots of stuff is pretty good when you dunk it in butter... ;D

Lets say you are used to eating Carp, Bullheads, and farm raised Tilapia. Eelpout might not be too awfully bad. But... if you are catching Eelpout, then you are probably in Walleye water. I'll wait for a walleye fillet, thanks.

There are folks who will eat ANYTHING, and then tell you what a dellicasy it is in some neighborhood in Banglidesh, and how you are lucky to be able to enjoy such a feast.

By the way, boil it in 7-Up, it is >>>just like<<< lobster. Feed this to your guests along with a story about an old Maine lobsterman who divulged this secret to you. While they are trying to clean that mess up, fry and eat the Walleye.
