Which do you use and when?  Also do you tie directly to the lure or to a spilt ring or to a snap?  I use a modified Berkley knot and tie to spilt rings or directly to the lure.  Lawdog

I use a Palomar most of the time.   I either tie to the split ring or snap.  I sort of prefer the snaps for the simple reason that they don't have that split joint for the line to work into and get nicked.  I also use the elongated split rings sometimes.

When you tie off direct to a crank bait, you loose a lot of its action.  Over the years, I've broke off some crankbaits from the line getting stuck in the split of a split ring and getting nicked.  The oval shaped split rings cure this as well as using a plain snap with no swivel.

The only lures I tie are spinnerbaits for everything else I use snap swivels for two reasons in low light conditions its tougher to tie and the snap swivel are actually like putting a hinge on a lure and it gives the cranks a little more flexability/action for free.  Now the only down fall is you have to retie the snap swivel often because the knot does wearout over "time" and "how many fish we caught" on one knot/tie?? This is the biggest failure that happens to snap swivels and this is why I lost so many lures on big strikes in my beginning of my bass fishing experience.  I'm not sure what kind of knot I'm using but I run the line thru the eye three times, then twist it about 5 or 6 times then put the line near the loop and choke it.  I found out I get a better knot/strength by running it threw three times in the eye.               BigBill

My eyes are bad enough but match that up with low light conditions I may take 20 minutes to retie or wait till dawn??

Now I started using the ball bearing snap swivels at first then the prices went up so now I use the 12 for 72 cents at Walmart which are just as good they never broke on me yet.

Palomar, loop knot, or trylene knot. Depends on the lure.

I pre-rig my poles at home so I have a head start on the day.  I have been putting a shot of super-glue on my knots.  These knots have held up while fighting salmon.

i find that i have to re-tie many times during a trip-even if i only use one bait. tha dang line gets dinged up to tha point i jest doan trust tha line. usually i'm cuttin it up bout a foot or so til i get to some good line the re-tieing. i'd luv ta tell ya it's frum catchin a lotta fish-but-well it's usually from shell or hardheads or sumthin else.

Paticularly when fishing a bottom lure like a texas rigged worm or a jig in the rocks of these highland reservoirs.  Its really probably good that we get hun up every 20th cast and loose a bait.

I sure is, that's what these forums were made for.  I know one thing, it has improved the way manufacturers service their customers.  Nobody wants a loose cannon on a web site somewhere.
