weaver scope mount bases?
« on: December 24, 2009, 04:02:05 AM »
Ive had 2 encores & several weaver style mounts, sold one that was a muzzleloader, configured the other as a  45/70 24 inch  & a pro hunter 30/06 28 inch. My question is the weaver style base mounts have a small gap at the front of the mount on both barrels, is this something I should be concerned with? Also, I will be buying more barrels & wanting to keep the same bases on all barrels so I can swap the scope over to them. The mounts I  have have 3 front & 3 back cross slots in them. Could they be the muzzleloader mounts? What part number would the mounts that have 3 front & 3 back cross slots be?

Also the base mount has 410 marked in the middle of the base.

all my bases except for the Burris pistol base extend into the taper of the barrel.I usually take a piece of fine sand paper and cover the top  of the barrel and then run base back and forth until machine marks are gone.

As noted, the overhang is normal.

As for bases & rings; I use Warne steel bases and their QD rings for all my Encore and Contender scopes and rifle barrels.  It makes switching scopes between barrels easy, you won't need so many scopes and the barrels are easier to store without scopes attached.
