Sighting in on a snow bank
« on: December 23, 2009, 09:22:57 AM »
The scope mount came yesterday from Rem, and the red dot and .45LCs, 250 gr. XTP-HP came today.  I put it together and stuck a target on a snow bank, backed up 25 yards and shot.  Neat!! A nice black hole the size of a half dollar in the snow high and right a foot.  Adjusted, shot, adjusted.  Good to go for now til I can get it on the bench.  The snow bank worked great, showed each shot plainly with the naked eye.

The ammo came out of Blue Star with new brass at 23.81 for 50.  Shipping on 100 was 8.50 priority mail for a total of 56.12, which I didn't feel to be too bad, especially these days...........and, the miracle was they actually had them.

I'm lovin' that little carbine :-* :-*

The nice thing is that you will be able to recover all those bullets when the snow melts........ for some reason they don't go too far in snow.

Glad you're shootin it Pete, but also be glad you got the ammo which can't legally be shipped by mail, it's classed as a class 1 explosive and is non-mailable,  it must be shipped UPS or Fedex ground marked ORM-D small arms ammunition, sounds like someone at Blue Star is a little clueless.  :-\

Just kinda backs up what I've really believed all along ya really should be able to ship ammo via USPS. I know they allow ORM-D to ship so why the heck not ORM-D Small Arms Ammo?

I asked at the local PO and even after searching their books they said "I have no clue" so you can't ship it from here.

I was kinda shocked when I got the shipping email telling me it went Priority Mail....I always thought it could not.  Blue Star's business is shipping ammo and brass....If anyone knows, they should.  Maybe a new kid in shipping thinking ammo's the same as brass??  Haven't got a clue.

I had a lot of orders recently coming via UPS, Fedex, and USPS.  It seems to me UPS outshines all the others.  USPS track and confirm is a joke.  The parcel gets here in four or five days and their tracking still has it in Oak Creek, WI.

Blue Star is wrong if they normally ship it USPS, it's very well defined in postal regs as well as Department of Transportation regs, I've been there, done this before in the Firearms and Ammo classifieds as well as the Reloading Equipment and Supplies classified forums, the regs are quoted in the sticky on How to Ship Primed Cases, ammo, primers, powder and primed brass are NOT mailable, period. ::)

I ordered some ammo from Midwayusa a while back and it came by USPS but also had a UPS shipping label on it. I asked them at the post office about it.They said that it was delivered to them from UPS for delivery my house. :-\ Weird I know. I dont know why it was done that way because I get stuff here by UPS fairly often.

Were the Midway and Blue Star boxes labelled ORM-D?

The Blue Star box looked like a book could have been in it.  Just the USPS Priority Mail label and no ORM-D.  I still think someone at Blue Star was asleep at the wheel.  Also, I ordered LRNs and they sent me XTPs for the same price.  Not complaining.

I don't get the big deal with USPS and mailing ammo.  It's not like it's gonna blow up and destroy a distribution center and massacre a bunch of innocents.

Here, Fedex does that more than UPS, and all it does is add a day or two to delivery.  I'm only seven miles from the Post Office.  Question is, why did the P.O. accept a box marked ORM-D ???

All I can say about Blue Star, with the few dealings I've had with them, they're Johnny on the Spot, and if they don't have what you ordered, you get something better.  The main thing is you get a delivery shipment right now.  I have some ammo on back order with others since August and September and still haven't a clue when or if it will arrive.  I'm going to cancel the orders and place them with Blue Star.

THIS IS NOT A COMMERCIAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good choice on the 250 XTP's Pete. They shoot great out of my .45 Carbine. I've only used Unique powder so far and it works great with the 250 XTP's and 250 LRNFP bullets that I have. I bought some 2400 and some IMR-4227 but haven't tried them yet. I plan on getting some 240 grain XTP-MAG's to use with those powders and I may also try some 300 grain bullets.
