In the "Why oh Why" thread got me thinking. I have been carrying my 3" SAA in a Bucheimer Federal Man Thumb brake holster for a looooooong time. Not really a "period" holster, but I like it for general use. It rides well, holds the revolver securely, stuff like that.

I decided I'd like one like it for my 5 1/2 inch SAA but Bucheimer went out of business many years ago. Anybody know of something comperable? $:-\$

I'll get a picture soon's my batteries charge.

Mike Barranti likes to replicate period holsters. Might not be cheap but it will be the best you can get...

Thanks 2D. I spent some time looking at his site yesterday. What I want is a thumb break for a 5.5 SAA which is kinda unusual. I don't know if the Bucheimer holster I have was designed for a SAA but it fits perfectly.

Oh, and "might not be cheap" is some kinda understatement!

Mernicle Custom has a nice pancake rig for single actions. They don't show it with a thumb snap, but I bet he would put one on there for you.

What about a leather hammer thong on a traditional western rig? A little slower than a thumb break but just as secure and fitting for a SAA.

El Paso Saddlery makes a pancake with a thumb break for single actions. Called a tortilla, it's only $66 (unless you choose full carving). Outside of Chip's home made, I rate the El Paso holsters as the best out there. 44 Man.

I don't want a traditional holster or a hammer thong...

I WANT A HOLSTER LIKE THE ONE I HAVE!!

And if I can't find one I'm gonna kick and scream!

I'll check out El Paso, but now that you mention it I could send the old one to Chip and I'll bet he would duplicate it!

After all, it's going on his belt!

That thing is real old! Seems to me I was carrying that bobbed barrel SAA in it back in the late 70's... Cross draw under my coat with factory ammo (5 rounds). I'm afraid it's history is long forgotten. $:-\$

How about a Triple K Lightning?

Cheaper Than Dirt has one for $44.97, their stock number is ZAP-443 (first holster on the second page of the Triple K holsters).

www.simplyrugged.com makes a great holster pancake style & he will put straps on it that he calls inside out straps. They allow the same holster to be used as an IWB holster.

I prefer old gun leather. The scars and discoloration gives them charter.

For authentic old west style holsters & belts try www.oldwestreproductions.com Rick's leather looks like it came out of the 1880s. His quality is as good as anyone's. I have a couple of his holsters & they get a lot of use.

you could also check out the kirkpatrick line also. I have a couple of his western rigs and the quality of the stiching and weight of the leather is second to none.. my humble opinion..

I happen to know a leatherworkin holster man (me) that will play with this design and see what I can come up with. I have an old Bucheimer auto holster, and I agree with you. They made some nice designs.

Is there a way you can get a pic of the back of the holster, without the belt?

Ruger has thumb breaks in there catolog, i have one for my sbh and single six not much different than what you have there. Of course you will have to beat them up yourself. Good luck . Mtn Jack

I checked them out and they look pretty good. I also noticed they were made by Triple K so I went to that web site. Again!

I don't know how I missed them the first time. They have a holster that looks like just what I want.

My Triple K holster arrived yesterday and my 5.5 inch Uberti SAA fits it fine. The leather used isn't up to the weight of the Bucheimer, I'd say only about ²/₃'s as heavy. The belt loop is a tight 2 inches and has a butt foward cant to it which I've always liked but limits the holster's use to strong side only. I can wear my Bucheimer strong side or cross draw.

It was also oily as the devil.

But I'll clean it all off when I soak it down to really form fit my revolver.

Guess I won't be happy until I get Chip to duplicate my Bucheimer for me... $:-\$

I have a Triple K gun belt with .45LC belt loops I bought at Cabela's for around $40. I like it. The quality is very nice.
And you can't go wrong with El Paso Saddlery holsters. This is their Model 1890. The design has been in their inventory for 120 years.

Atllaw did you get it from ruger or triple k? I ordered from ruger at 33.00 dollors i liked the ruger emblem, mine are sorta lite but have held up to daily use mostly the single six. Glad you found something. Be safe Mtn Jack

Got it from Midway, I didn't want the Ruger emblems!

I'm sure the leather is heavy enough to stand up to the use I'll be putting it through. And, for the price, it's maybe a little better then I expected. So I'm happy.
